Wednesday, staying motivated

No CC use 1 month 13 days
Personal checking -$194.12
Studio checking  $70.46

Money is tight and the shop is slower than I would like, this has just made me less motivated.  It is easy for me to get a little down in the dumps.  I also believe this time of year with all the darkness and cold and sad memories makes me blue.  Today is my oldest daughter's Birthday and the day of Franka's passing.  So bitter sweet  thoughts take over.  I told myself this morning I was going to stay motivated.

Sometimes I have to march myself Pippi Longstocking style around the house and say, "You are going to do this."  As I sat at the computer first thing this morning despondent and unmoving, I had to tell myself that I had plenty to do.  In the shop there were 6 hems sitting on my sewing chairs.  So I did them.  It took 20 minutes.  That is $60.00.  $60.00 that will help take the dent out of the checking overdraft.  I then started looking around the shop and realized I have plenty of things to keep me busy.  Just what is my problem?

I have often thought this for a long time.  I am as addicted to being behind and under pressure as I am to debting.  If I don't feel the adrenaline rush of pressure I don't feel the need to get things done.  What a terrible habit.  I mean really if I don't have $600.00 worth of piles of sewing I cannot sew?  I really need to work on this.  Get your butt into the shop and do what you have, quit feeling sorry for yourself.

So I've made the bed, swept the floor, fed the animals, cleaned the kitchen and I have a big old pile of sewing to do.  I also need to clean out the fridge and make turkey salad do a little baking.  Every day I take the checks that come into the studio and I deposit them and pay a bill or two.  I am slowly whittling them down. Today I paid ASCAP fees and and the phone bill.  Next is the power bill which was HIGH this month.  But one day at a time.

Out My Window:  Still overcast and cold, damp.

I will stay motivated.

Have a great and productive day.

Kim

  1. One thing at a time. Sorry this is a hard time for you, but I'm sure you can stay busy. Do you ever sew for pleasure? Like do things for yourself or friends/family? I too sometimes feel like if I'm not under pressure, I'm not in any hurry to get things done. Then they come back and bite me. Bad habit.

  2. I am sorry to hear you are so blue. I can relate. I get that way during the slow season. That is why I am focusing on really saving up this year so that we will have money when it is slow.

  3. Hugs to you, Kim. I know the feeling. It's so easy to let things drag you down. Good for you for picking yourself up and taking things one bill at a time. One day at a time ...

  4. "Tomorrow is another day" as Scarlett O'Hara used to say!Today seems like a good day to be kind to yourself and cut yourself a break. The way you powerhouse through most of your days makes me envious of your determination and perseverance. You inspire me. So if you need some time to veg out on this all important anniversary I think that's just what you should do.

  5. Kim have I ever told you I think your wonderful. You keep more balls in the air and get more done then I could ever think of. Your family is always in my prayers and I know you miss Franka but you celebrate her life by helping your aunt.

You my love as those before me need a vacation. Dont think I wont pick everyone up(well my car only seats 5 so we might need 2 cars) and come up there. How about you let the Lord hold your worries, problems and pressures for a little while. I assure you he won't mind.

  7. Sometimes its ok to allow yourself an afternoon of not doing anything but mellowing on the couch with a tried and true pick-me-up movie on the tv. Sometimes its ok to feel the way you are, as long as you remember the happy memories of those that have passed. Sometimes it wasn't meant to be when you don't get something done. Each moment is there for us to make the most of, even if that's taking care of ourselves with some relaxation.

Take a hot bath. Drink a hot beverage. Watch a hot-guy movie. Warm your jammies in the dryer for 5 minutes. Lose yourself in a good book. Or take a nap even. Change the tune, to change the song. Turn on the stereo full blast and sing at the top of your lungs. All of these are instant and amazing mood shifters. Or, play the game I play with myself. Turn on a favourite TV show - even if you seen the episode. Sit down with your to-do list. Spend the first portion of the show writing the tasks out on individual pieces of scrap paper and put them into a hat. Every time a commercial break comes on, draw one piece of paper from the hat, get up and do the task. Who cares how long it takes or doesn't take. If you run long, sit until the next commercial and repeat the process.

It's how I get the dusting, the vacuuming, dishes, and the bathroom cleaned in an hour or two (I break the bathroom into parts...).

Smile lady - melancoly is for Melloncamp...not you =) If it makes it any better, I can stand on my head for you =)

  8. I think what you composed was actually very reasonable. However, think about this, what if you added a little content?
I am not suggesting your content is not solid.
, but suppose you added something that grabbed people's attention? I mean "Wednesday, staying motivated" is a little boring. You ought to look at Yahoo's home page and watch how they create article
titles to grab viewers interested. You might add a video or a
related picture or two to get people interested about everything've written. In my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.

  9. I've found that having a to do list is good, but having a "top 5" list for the day of things I must achieve is even better. That way, if I do nothing else, I've accomplished the most important things that I need to do.

  10. Im sure things will look brighter soon. I know when I used to live up north, the dead of winter made me feel really unmotivated some days. I hope things turn around soon for you!
