Thursday, So nice, Sew nice :)

Yesterday, Sis took mom out and about. I hit my machine at 12:18 and by 3:00 had as much work done as I usually get done in a full day.  Mostly because it was quiet with no interruptions. I could knock out my piles of work and it was wonderful.  I have a second fitting on a Wedding dress today and I will start on another.

I just pulled two chickens out of the freezer and thawed them last night.  They are boiling for chicken salad for the party on Saturday.  The older two girls are due in tonight with all the grandsons so I thought I would have chicken off the bone, with gravy over mashed potatoes and biscuits, some kind of vegetable.  Hub's and I need to go to the store and get grandchildren food.

Sis is out running an errand and she will come and get mom so I can have the afternoon free.  We are moving mom over to Lil sis's house for the remainder of the weekend as my house will fill with my own kids.  Lil sis has set up a day bed in her TV room next to the 1/2 bath for mom.  Even though mom can still do stairs, it is hard at the end of a long day to get her up them.  Lil sis's bathroom on her second floor is a much longer way away from mom's upstairs bathroom causing some accident problems.  We just keep trying to solve these problems as they arise.  It is all we can do.

I am going to get a few more things knocked out in the shop.  There is a prom dress and another coming in this afternoon.  I have a pageant costume that needs an over haul and I hope to finish the wedding dress that is tried on today.  I would like to get another dress ready for a back lace up if possible. Yesterday it was jeans and overalls today it is fancy clothes.  I am blessed with work.

My baby chicks are getting pin feathers and I swear they have doubled in size since last Friday.  The older hens are all laying again.   Some every day and others every other day.  The Easter grass is ready for its first cutting.  I will take pictures for tomorrow's blog.  I wanted grandson to be able to cut the grass when he gets here.  I always loved having my turn to do that when I was little.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  2. I am so happy for you that you got to dig into the work pile uninterrupted! What a great gift from your sister. Also glad that you have limited the chaos by having you mom stay with Lil sis while your kids are in town. Hope the visit is fantastic and stress free.

  3. You will have a happy house full of people. What do you get for grandkids food? It sounds like a fun weekend.

I have my commode chair for me if I ever need it. I did get one and did not need it after surgery and donated it. The month after I got it, I needed another surgery. I have a new, second one that has not been used, but I am ready. The carpet will be covered with plastic sheeting if I ever need to use it...lol...if it is on carpet.

Sewing without mental or physical interruption IS a gift from your sister. Of course, you do have her all the time. Have fun sewing.

    2. Insurance paid for it. Anyone who has to move it for me looks it over before touching. I explain I have never used it and they touch it more confidently and look less squeamish. Get it before you need it. They can be had second hand and sometimes for free. I hope you never need it, but chances are you or husband or Mom will need it sooner or later.

  8. It sounds like your whirlwind continues. I'm glad you got a lot of sewing done. I'm sure when things are full in your shop, there is a relief with each finished item that you can get out the door. And, out the door means $, I'm sure, which is what you're doing it for, after all. So, it's a double good feeling with each project marked off the list.

There was a time when I was helping my mom care for both of my grandmas. We had my parents, my husband and I, 5-7 children (depending on the time--some of the older ones were in and out), and one grandma in the house and one in a mobile home right down a short sidewalk. We never could have done it without everyone's help. We were feeding at least 11 every day. The house was large, but not that large, so Grandma had to move in with 2 of my girls in a large room. She seemed to love hearing all about what they had done that day, and where they had been--it kept her interested, since she was virtually bed-bound toward the end of our time together. We did find that one of those chairs helped tremendously in the night when she needed to use the facilities. My mom gave her broth and medicine and helped her use it every night in the middle of the night. I only gave my mom respite. I really admire my mom for her patience. Later, that arrangement was changed and that grandma went with my mom and dad to their new home when we decided to not all live together any more. She did not live much longer, but I treasure the time we had with her. I was left with the other grandma, who we needed to make a nutritious, large, vegetable-filled meal at noon for, help with medication every night, and everything else she needed. When I could not stay at home all day, every day, she decided to move into assisted living at a facility where her sister was. I always admired her for choosing that. She was afraid she would fall while I was gone, but I still had 5 kids to take care of, so did have to divide my attention. So, when I explained that I was leaving for 10 days on a trip, but my sister would come do all the things I did, she just up and moved (with help) and did what she needed to do. She was in her mid-90's at that point, but still strong-minded! She wasn't the easiest, but I do have fond memories of that time in my life. I have some pretty funny ones, too, and some sad ones. But, that, all-together, is what life is, I think. When this is over, you will have the comfort that you did all you could, and that you did the right thing for your mom, the best you could. That's all anyone can do.

    1. Thank you so much Becky. This has been very hard and I know I complain too much. I am hoping I have good feelings about these days in the future.
