Wednesday, Pulling myself up by the boot straps

I have been letting things slide here as mom becomes more work and the shop has been so busy.  Some of the things have been debt saving strategies.  I just tell myself I am too tired, or I just waste time feeling sorry for myself.  Everyone deserves a little pity party once in a while, but not getting things ready for dinner leads to take out.  Not using up leftovers leads to waste. Not turning off lights is a money leak.  If you want to save money it takes work and paying attention.  It is very easy for me not to pay attention and go back to my slacker ways.

So yesterday I gave myself a firm talking to.  I put a stew together with meat from the freezer.  I put it in the crockpot to cook all day.  I did all the laundry and there were only three loads.  I just did a run through of the house, which took all of 20 minutes.  I have a tendency to make things larger in my mind than they are.  I also went through the ironing and pulled out all the linens and ironed those in about 1/2 an hours.  I still have a large basket of ironing but I will do 3-4 items at a time throughout the day and it will be caught up.

Rehearsal went well last night and I was pleased.  I still have not gotten to the costumes, because at the doctor yesterday, he decided it was time to fix a trigger finger of mine.  Actually almost all of my fingers will trigger if over used but the little one on my left hand is bad.  It snaps when I play the piano.  So it is an aggravation.  They did an ultrasound of the tendon and then they put in a hollow needle and auger the bump in the tendon.  Then steroids are injected.  Other then painful it was interesting to watch.  My left hand was sore and numb for most of the day.  Then very sore all evening.  It is much better today and the finger is acting normally.  (Could this be done with my brain I wonder)

I did not get anything cut out before rehearsal and after I went outside and planted some in the garden.  I cleaned up 4 bags of weeds.  Hub's planted some onions, and we still have to do potatoes.  It is raining hard today.

Late last night Hub's and I cut up and processed 10 quart bags of rhubarb which I froze.  I have already put chicken breasts in to cook for chicken enchiladas.  I also ironed two blouses while I was waiting on a customer.  I just need to instill good habits and quit complaining.

The doctor talked to me about slowing down a little even though my SED rates were really good. I am trying but years of over doing is a hard habit to break.  After I get all three babies down for a nap, the baby, the toddler, the puppy, I will cut and sew up the night shirts.  With the rain I will not get out in the yard today, so I have no excuse not to get other things done around here.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. You may hate me, but I have to wonder. With three people in danger of falling, and your mother already having fallen several times, is it wise to bring a puppy into the mix? This is a major cause of older people falling and breaking limbs. I know that you and your husband might fit the "older" category, but even if it is only your mother, it seems a puppy could cause her to fall and injure herself. I have written and rewritten this over the time since I heard of the puppy trying to make this as soft as possible. Your life is beyond busy for many reasons, and it seems you have added one more reason. If your husband is helpful with the puppy, it seems his help could be better utilized to make life easier. I have deleted this comment so many times. For some reason, I cannot post using url. Practical Parsimony

    2. Mom can not go any where without help. If she gets up and moves from her bed to the chair we help her. He does not go in her room. It is sweet of you to be concerned and we watch mom carefully.

Oh, since she just opened a door and fell last week, I was not aware that she never moved without help.

    4. She was in her bathroom at her sink, which has a big counter she can hold onto. We don't know what caused her to go backwards. It was a weird fluke. But it could happen again.

plus, you are always overworked and exhausted to the point of not taking care of yourself. Then, you add another job!

  3. What do you do with the rhubarb? The only thing I know is strawberry-rhubarb pie - is there anything else to do with it? I honestly don't think I have ever tasted rhubarb....is it a fruit or vegetable? Guess I have some homework to do :)

    2. I make rhubarb pies, rhubarb strawberry pie, sauce for ice cream is delicious. Rhubarb crisp, and cobbler. But I also add it to cakes mixes for a moist sheet cake with whip cream.

  4. My friend had an injection put into her trigger finger a couple weeks ago. I hope you are feeling a new sense of freedom with your working finger today! :-)) I honestly don't think I've ever eaten rhubarb, but it always looks pretty in pictures. Have a great day!

    1. It is very very sour and called pie plant in the olden days. You need a lot of sugar but it has a very unique sweet sour flavor.

    2. I love rhubarb. When people want to know exactly how it tastes, I compare the sweet and sour taste to lemonade.

  5. Oh that procedure for your finger just made me cringe. I'm glad it helped though. I have something similar happen with my toes and it hurts. I have to say I agree with your doctor...you need to slow down before you totally wear yourself out. You have worked hard your whole life and you take care of everyone else but yourself. Please my friend, be good to yourself and start telling other people NO!

  6. Wow! I had trigger finger once for a long time on one of my thumbs. One doctor looked at it and vaguely said, "I think there's an operation you can have sometime if it doesn't get better. Just wait and see what happens." Another doctor said, "I think that's called trigger finger." And peered at it for 2 seconds before going on to the reason I was really there for. It did clear up and go away. One day, it was just gone. Now I know! If it ever comes back and doesn't leave, there really is something they can do that does not involve an operating table. Whew:)

So take heart! You may wake up one morning and your brain will be all better, without any procedures:)
