Grandma and Lucy have a talk. She was really paying attention. This too shall pass as she gets older. I am so in love.
Have you ever thought of yourself as a creator? I believe and I really do believe this... We were all born to be creative. We come from a Father in Heaven who is a creator. I think it is within us and comes out according to our needs and wants. Some are more creative than others but all of us create.
Never apologize for being creative. For years people (especially church women) would snidely say to me, "Is there anything you can't do?" This would deeply hurt my feelings. I had not set out to make them feel small. I am just a creative person. I was raised to be creative. Singing, dancing, piano and instruments were encouraged. Cooking, baking and the hand arts were all part of my childhood.
We were allowed to make messes. For years I hid whatever potential I had and now I just don't. If someone is rude, I just smile and I do not downplay or apologize. It is their problem not mine. Life is too short to not make the most of your creativity.
Now I would say I am a jack of many trades and not a master of any, but I really enjoy being creative.
Also, creativity comes in all forms. It may not be in the arts. Maybe you have more compassion than others, maybe you are drawn to help others, or you love fiercely. Those gifts are also forms of creation. Loving animals, gardening, growing food, raising humans. Heck people who clean are creative. I could use a little help in that area. So, figure out where your creative lies and nurture it!!!! Don't apologize.
Yesterday was very busy in the shop. Lots of interruptions makes it hard to concentrate. I was able to finish a wedding dress that was picked up this morning. I also worked on a difficult mother of the bride dress. I then ripped into a flower girl dress and I had to stop. It was after 5:30 in the afternoon and my back was screaming.
Today I will finish the flower girl dress and also finish another. Many, many pairs of pants have come into the shop to hem and more dresses. So, the lull we had is over for a while. This will make Sissie happy.
I think she thought I was out of work. SUPRISE!!! Sissie is gone today taking a neighbor somewhere.
She is going to be surprised tomorrow.
I am off to create a mess in the shop, and I am going to love it.
God is good

That is such a lovely photo of you with Lucy Kim - just so special. I loved your words today - you are so right my friend. I hid my talents for years too - was almost ashamed to be creative. Now I don't give a damn - just be MYself!!! It takes us years to realise this - I wish I'd realised this in my 30's instead of my 60's.
ReplyDeleteShe is so fun. Yes why do we let people do that to us?
DeleteBeing creative is wonderful on all ways. You often hear me say that about cooking! We all have gifts and need to use them.
ReplyDeleteOh baby snuggles - I love it.
Isn't she just the cutest okay grandma loves.
DeleteAs you say we were all formed by the greatest creative, and he gave each of us gifts that we can use to be creative with as well.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
we are made in his image.

Love the photo! And that she is listening to you, may that continue forever. I always paid attention to my grandmother, she was much less critical of me than my mother…
ReplyDeleteYour creative comments were spot on…I was thinking of adopting the southern expression “bless your heart” as a reply to some folks ;). Hilogene in Az.
Grandmothers are a blessing.
DeleteIs that comment in another language spam or an attempted hack? If you think so, you may wish to delete it. After getting hacked last month--and I am still cleaning up the mess--I am super attuned to this.
ReplyDeleteKim, that's a beautiful picture of you and Lucy. You lucky dog!!
I have never thought I am creative, mostly because I don't have good fine motor skills. But you cast this in a new light. I have done tons of community service projects, including a federal grant. I have been given lots of "impossible" projects and got them done. (Usually, an impossible project, like some of the wedding dresses you alter, just take more work and some thinking outside the box).
There was a story in the Spokesman-Review a few days ago about how repetitive projects, such as knitting, crocheting, needlework, etc., are good for mental health and may help prevent dementia and Alzheimers. Also very helpful for stress. My guy's daughter-in-law, who lives in Abu Dhabi, recently took up crocheting and is making cat clothes! Living in the Emirates has been very stressful for ex-pats (and probably everybody) since the Iran war began. This helps her get through it. I don't know how much the cats like it.
