Once, when I went to a sewing class at a juniior college in order to use their huge cutting tables and fancy and commercial machines. The teacher asked me to alter a sequin covered dress. She knew I was capable of doing it and she was busy as she often sewed for the students instead of their doing their own sewing. The sequins were on stretchy material. The woman who owned the top/dress was the mother of a teen who was wearing it in a pageant. The sewer, whoever she was, had used a blouse pattern for woven material which of course won't stretch. So, the was really baggy. I took the bust measurement and measured the top. Well, there was 12 inches too much material. So, rather than attempt to take out the side seam, I just took the scissors and made a bold cut up the side seam, cutting front and back at one cut.
The mother let out a blood curdling scream, fell backward to faint and people caught her. The teacher came running, saw what happened and comforted the distraught woman who thought I was crazy and had ruined the top of the dress. The teacher, who was a friend, comforted the woman further.
I can tell you I was rattled a bit from the blood-curdling scream. The woman was very happy when I finished, thanked me and apologized for her lack of faith...lol. And, she did not have to pay to get her dress made out of the worse fabric to sew on the face of the earth! She did ask what I owed her. Well, I thought you would appreciate the story.
The dishes are so pretty!Practical Parsimonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08419071209412207674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6809809639444040308.post-79748680609350831142022-09-21T14:46:53.610-07:002022-09-21T14:46:53.610-07:00My daughter and I just saw cute little pumpkin tur...My daughter and I just saw cute little pumpkin tureens on YouTube haul, but neither of us want the extra. They are so cute though. I have a large pumpkin soup tureen though. I wait for pumpkins until closer to October, but if I had leaves and apples they'd be out now. The beads or pearls or what you call the dress material is gorgeous but I can't imagine the difficulty. Keep on Kim. I get your putting the grandkids first. I'm sort of doing that with grand pup. I think we all probably feel like this at times. That sequined dress looks like a nightmare - I can well imagine how the sewing machine needles feel about that!!! I don’t understand it but it has happened enough that I now don’t get too depressed when the nothing finished days happen ;). Isn’t it great it is the pumpkin time of year!
