Saturday, Thanksgiving upside/downside?

This is what our dining room looked like until about 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving day

Did you expect a scene with a beautiful Turkey dinner display?  Not at my abode.  Our Thanksgiving was almost not.  It started with a hysterical call from my Lil sis that her daughters plane had been cancelled coming out of St Louis Thanksgiving eve.  So we punted and got her on a 7:30 flight in the morning, which put my kids coming in late with grandson as they were to pick up our niece at the airport saving my Lil sis the 2x2 hour trip to the airport.  So we slid dinner back, no problem; except the second flight got rerouted through Tulsa Oklahoma and had to wait for a new crew.  So again we push dinner back and we finally were able to eat at 7:30 Thanksgiving evening.
What the dining room should look like.

Lil sis and I had everything hot and on the table in about 15 minutes.  I came in last with the rolls fresh out of  the oven.  It was a stressful day for all but we tried to take it cool.  I was able to get the last dress done and started to work on the hand trim which I hope to complete today.

I did get my Rite-aid shop done but I did it by myself and it was not crowded at all.  Everyone was so strung out Thursday night we did not play our usual games but all went to bed.  I was going to go to Rite-aid again on Friday to use free points for my stocking things, my niece really wanted a pair of carhart overalls like mine.  We wear little boys 16-18.  So I agreed to take her to Big 40 which is a large Ranch store here.  Well soon the whole family was with us and we ended up shopping something I said I would never do.  It was not overly crowded as it is rural Idaho and it was a glorified feed store.

Friday we had friends over to lil sis's for games and left overs, it was  crazy loud and chaotic but fun.  We played cards against humanity and I won. I guess that makes me inhumane. We have way too much food left over we will eat for weeks.

Today we were up early and went to look at a wedding venue for D#3's wedding.  It is right outside of Moscow and about 40 minutes from our house and 10 minutes from the bride and grooms 2 bedroom apartment. For grandparents)  It has a beautiful prairie, with a pond and gazebo, bathrooms, parking  and camping if wanted.  Then a huge house with enough indoor seating if it rains.  We also have a huge professional kitchen private bridal suite and grooms quarters. It was perfect and we set a date of August 3rd.  So we have a date and a venue.  We are set to roll. Bride wants to keep Wedding local using local cuisine.  So we will likely do salmon smoked and grilled.  We will do all our own food.  Family can come and camp.  We will use wheat from the fields and local flowers for decor.  We will do all that ourselves. We have a small wedding budget and will make and do all that we can ourselves.  This is family experience and we want it to be memorable.  Hub's string quartet will play it will be beautiful.  I am excited. Our niece and nephew are professional wedding photographers, so that will be a great discount.  As usual I am calling in favors.

Now it is home to relax a little and work on the last parts of the dresses.

It was a wonderful time with family and friends. I am overfilled with gratitude for my blessings.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  2. Thanksgiving here was different yet still fun. Son3 and new wife went to friends for an early brunch. Son2 and new wife went to her mom’s for lunch. Son 1 TheHub and Pip went hiking in a boulder field while DIL1 went for a long walk and sight seeing car ride. Meanwhile I cooked. We are at about 7 which we have never done before then watched football. It was a different kind of day but was still a lot of fun

  3. I'm glad everyone's flights and drives got sorted out so that the family was all there to share the Thanksgiving dinner! Your dining room looks great in the second photograph and I'm sure the family would have loved the wonderful food you prepared. I'm glad you were all able to go shopping afterwards, too. :)

    1. I don't think any of us realize just how much we have. I feel guilty so I try to give as much as possible.

  6. The dog did not drag the scraps around? Maybe you can train her to pick up scraps.
