Tuesday, I made my pies today!

Yesterday was crazy busy and I sewed all day.  Daughter brought Kelsa and Schmills down while she aught dance and watched them until about 8 p.m. Then hubs and I went to Wal mart for pet supplies and then to Winco for the last few things for Thanksgiving.  Both stores were very quiet which was nice.

I came home a took a hot bath I was tired. This morning started off with a bang.  Up and dressed and off to pickup sister missionaries to bring then back to the house to make pies.  Had another bride in this morning.  We made three pumpkin pies, two chocolate creme (one went home with them) one coconut creme pie,and this apple pie.  I know that is a lot of pies but with the missionaries coming over on Friday for leftovers, so I wanted plenty.

I had the girls mix up two double batches of pie crusts.  Only one of them had ever made piecrust and they did a great job.  By the time they had rolled out a couple of crusts they were less afraid of the process.

We were able to get all 7 either in the fridge or in the oven in two hours, then I took them to Taco bell for lunch and then home. My pumpkin pies and  apple pie were in the oven.

Hubs was up at daughters all day with babies and he just got home.  He asked what was for dinner and I said pumpkin pie and cheese and crackers. He  didn't gripe.  Great because that was it.

I am wiped out after cleaning the kitchen.  I had not done the floors which are horrid, but I want to get my stuffing and cheeseball, sweet potatoes, and cranberry salad done tomorrow and then I will thoroughly clean the house.

D#2 will be down in the morning with babies as she teaches a private lesson tomorrow morning.  She is staying the night with kids and she will help me with everything else.

My favorite pie , below chocolate cream.  Well I like almost all pie.  It is kind of like donuts, one piece is never enough.

Have you started any of your cooking yet?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

  1. The turkey, cranberry sauce, and eggs were done. Then, I ate all the boiled eggs for the gravy. Now, I have more almost done. Eggs are easier on an achy tooth than meat, so eggs were my protein. Tomrrow is pie day. When I make pumpkin pie, that is all I eat for about two days for all three meals and snacks. Of course, I bake about four or more. Cheese and crackers would be in the way.

  3. I am glad you are in an area that the covid is not as bad as where we are. It's so bad they are telling us to Not have anyone that does not live with us in our homes. We drop stuff off to kids on their porches. To deliver a stove and frig to Daughter 4 who is fighting cancer, her doctor gave her booties for us to put on our feet before entering her home. We have gloves, masks and glasses. We will toss it all into her out door trash can so not to bring anything in to our truck . What a freaking nightmare and heart break that I can not hold my baby at this time

  4. I always buy my pie dough but, after baking a pie two days ago, I am bound and determined to try again at making my own. My mom made wonderful pie dough but I've never been able to accomplish that feat.

    1. I think once you get a good piecrust recipe pie is easy. Always make at least 8 crusts and freeze. that was you only make that mess once!

  5. I have to laugh when you type a busy day-wen do you not have a busy day. I love chocolate pie as well, but most pies, one piece will do me fine. Just a question, with the missionaries coming over, are you worried about being around so many different households? I think I have it ingrained in me to keep in my bubble.

    1. No because they are so very isolated right now. Not allowed out unless for service. Fully masked, and usually outside. They are very isolated much more that we are I think. I feel bad for them.

  6. Those pies look so good. I am a very messy cook and not very good at it. I could never make a pie look as good as those pies do. I need extreme help, like turkey bags, and they have never failed me yet.....lol. My menu has gotten messed up because of special requests so I will attempt to adapt. One son wants banana bread...what???? It will be from a mix people, I have no bananas and I am not going out to the store. I also made mulberry cobbler because I, by accident, defrosted frozen mulberries I had picked from my mulberry tree....sigh. I had originally said I was going to use them and then said no, and somehow I left them out. I did get the cornbread dressing made after making a huge mess in the kitchen last night. Now youngest son wants a pea salad I sometimes make and that was not in the menu. I will do that instead of the mac and cheese. Who knows what I will finally end up with....lol. Definitely turkey breast and wings, long carrots baked with the turkey in the turkey bag, cornbread dressing, rolls, mashed potatoes, gravy, spinach dip, pea salad, banana bread, a little bitty baked pumpkin, mulberry cobbler. I think I will make the sweet potato pie or casserole Christmas. I am gonna wait on the mac and cheese, pecan pie, etc for Christmas also. I am just done with my flubups. I should have asked what the two kids who live within an hour of me wanted. The oldest is working up in the north part of the state and cannot come, and daughter is thousands of miles away where there is snow in the mountains. We have temps in the 70’s. I am still dropping off food on the porch for my two youngest sons.

    1. Well a messy cook is a good cook as far as I am concerned. I have never used a Turkey bag are they easy to use. I have a large Huskavarna roaster from Sweden that I inherited. It weighs 25 pounds and then add a turkey but it can roast a 25 pound bird in 4 hours.

  7. baby boomers are going to get abused and treated like garbage in the retirement homes. Maybe you boomers shouldn't have been so selfish and arrogant and greedy. Literally everyone hates baby boomers now. Enjoy those retirement homes, and good luck, boomers!
