Thursday, My inner brat is happy

Thank you ,thank you, my inner brat thanks you. I whined and I got my wish.  See it still works.  Does not work with hubs however.

Spent all day in the yard yesterday, then sewed in the evening.  We are getting there.  Hubs has bad allergies right now.

     The weather is holding.

We are about 6 buckets away from being done with the drain, we also have to  do the edging.

I put the slate walk way together yesterday afternoon.  It looks great.  I also tore up three large walking stones so I could level the soil under neath them.  I had to soften the dirt and I hope I can get that done today.  I can't believe with as much rain as we have had how hard the clay dirt gets.

Well that back yard is calling me.  It is supposed to be sunny tomorrow so I want to get all the grunge work done in the house so I can play.

Have a great and productive day!

Kim

  1. So, for us dummies - what is a french drain? Glad you are almost done. It sounds like a huge job.

    1. Our house is built on a series of steep hills that flatten and then continue. As water flows downhill this can cause major flood issues. We bought this house as a flip as it would not take a bank loan due to flooding. So we dung a 16 in ch by 2 foot trench the length of the lot and around the house. Into the trench you put a pipe with holes in it and then cover the pipe with rock. This allows slower drainage and prevents flooding as it forces the excess water around the house and down the hill. But after 17 years the rocks were full of compacted dirt, causing water to back up. So the drain system had to be cleaned. We did not flip house because I got sick and that kind of work is beyond us now.

  2. I'm glad your whining got results :) Never works for me - the cats don't pay me any attention at all!

    1. I just told my cat NO and she listened, do you suppose she is possessed?

  3. I think manhandling huge stones is a large part of my back problems right now. Of course, I got the stones about 30 years ago, but my back has not forgotten or forgiven me. Allergies are killing me right now and I have head congestion, sore throat, and tight chest with fever. UGH! Wish I were sewing.

    1. I am so sorry, these rocks are little and I only put in a bucket what I can handle. But the repetition is killing me.

  4. Hopefully this will be the last time you need to do this drain! So much work involved!

  5. I feel ya! I'm torn between spending a beautiful evening out in the yard or inside sewing... I did spent a little time out over my lunch the other day, then spent the rest of my free time sewing. Things are getting done! yay!
