Friday, Update

Mom was a trial yesterday.  She did allow me a good nights sleep but was very sick all day.  I was constantly being summoned into her room.  Even with my help she managed to get bile all over the sheets and down the bed skirt.  I fell like all I do is laundry.  She seemed to get better about 6p.m. and was finally able to hold down some food.

How does one die with dignity.  Mom fusses and cries.  I did rub her hands and feet with lotion for about a 1/2 an hour and that seemed to calm her down.  Hub's and I were able to take a walk last night as we had a neighbor girl come and sit with mom, who was asleep.

I became very frustrated as I had a wedding dress that is due out today and I started on it at noon and was not able to finish it until 10:15 just too many interruptions.  The shop had constant customers and of course everything is due out next week.

Rather than complaining ( but I like to)you can see I was able to put a significant chunk of money on the debt I am working on so even though I am frazzled and running I am still making progress.

I will be teaching a workshop next week every morning from 9-12.  I have help with mom full time M-W and will get further help for Thursday and Friday.  I would really love to still go to my eldest daughters, at the end of the week if possible.  I will see how mom fairs.

I really hope I can get her up today and out of the house. Hubs plays again tonight.  Mom has not been out of her room since last Saturday except one time.  That has to be awful.  This process of leaving you earthly home is not easy.

Have a great and productive day, staying positive while you are in the negative.

  1. She is eligible for Medicare. They help with pads for the bed and lots of other items. Have you checked with them? This program is something that is available for everyone and is not charity. She paid for it. My friend had more money than god and used Medicare all the time. I am so sorry for all this agony for both of you.

  2. I'm just continuing to send you virtual hugs. I hope you can get out for the night, a few hours to no one needing anything form you.

  3. I almost hesitate to say this, so please ignore it if it isn't helpful, but it would be awful for YOU or I to stay in our room for a week. For my autistic son, or niece, it would be wonderful, and not awful at all. I don't know how your mother really feels about it. She may not be able to remember that she hasn't been out of her room. It may be familiar and comfortable, cozy and warm to her. It might even make her feel more secure and grounded to be in such familiar surroundings. Of course, you know her best, and you would know if it was best to get her out--each person is different. As you mentioned previously, things are changing so rapidly that it must be hard to sort it all out for you. Hang in there!

  4. You might get some lavender essential oil to add to the lotion when you massage her hands and feet--it can help with emotions. I have used spikenard eo to help ease the transition of dying. Praying for you both.

  6. I was wondering, if your mom is religious, if she would find comfort in visits from a spiritual advisor. Maybe your mom would feel better talking to someone about her feelings over her declining health and facing death.

Also, maybe she could benefit from visits from a Reiki practitioner? She might find it very calming and soothing.

Hugs to you both. I'm so sorry your mom is struggling, and that her struggle is yours, too.

  7. I second Evelyn...lavender. I'd put sachets around her room. You can add lavender to applesauce too. I don't know how it holds up in Jello salad tho. ;-)
