Both Sis and Slug are remodeling their kitchens right now and I wonder if things will be cleaned up and ready for Turkey day. Remodeling anything in the kitchen is not for the faint hearted.
Hubs is running the lawn mower outside my window and then I heard him talking on the phone to a client saying he would be over to put up a hand rail on her stairs, and I could not figure out how he could be out mowing the lawn and in the house talking on the phone at the same time. He is magical. Then he came in a told me he was running out of gas for the winter.
We are going up to pick up his 4 wheeler this afternoon and then going to work at the food bank tonight for a couple of hours.
I have my assignments (the usual) for Thanksgiving. I will do the rolls, the pies, the relish tray and a small oyster stuffing as that is hubs favorite. Pies will be pumpkin, pecan, and apple, maybe a cream also but that depends on how many are actually showing up. Although I can send pie home with the kids. We are only have our youngest this year and possible her in laws, as the other two are with family. But at least I know my duties.
I picked up my free turkey yesterday that I got on the Ibotta app and I actually got it into the freezer, with a lot of shoving and shuffling. Pulled out a whole chicken, and some ham slices and a pound of ground beef. I am going to make a huge batch of pie crusts to freeze either tonight or some time tomorrow and then do up quiche with the ham and some peppers I need to use in the fridge. The chicken will be roasted and I will make a few things with it this week, the burger I have not decided but probably something with beans, maybe chili. That should get us through the week I think. I will do a turkey and stuffing here at my house even though we will eat at Lil sis's. I like having my own leftovers. So does hubs, plus if we get sick of it all I can feed the missionaries, they are good at clean up
There are at least 12 pairs of pants in the shop to hem along with a bridesmaid dress, so that is my goal for today, before I leave with hubs to pick up his new toy. I am going to put the chicken in the oven when we leave.
Youngest daughter has a birthday on the 28th and we will celebrate on Thanksgiving. Then I need to concentrate on Christmas. I really hope to have my Christmas shopping done before the end of the month. Yeah we will see how that goes.
Does Christmas shopping stress you out? It does me. I think it is all the years of never having enough money, and the debt, and feeling like I would not meet the kids expectations. I actually dreaded Christmas for years, and I think I have a little PTSD over it. But I really do love the season and the music and the decorations, the cooking. I just have this little angst this time of year and I wish I could get over it. Any thoughts?
Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.
Kim
We never had money to spend much on Christmas. Did a lot of decorating, favorite meals. A Christmas show as often as possible as we did not have cable but did have a VHS :). Went to see lights Christmas eve with pjs on and hot cocoa. We have 50 in the family with the kids, grandkids and great grandkids and Hubby's parents. We are not doing Thanksgiving. Not all the kids are vaccinated and they don't want to risk our health. SO we are thinking to start decorating for Christmas. About 1/3rd of those around us already have .
ReplyDeleteThat is very sweet of your family to try and protect you.
DeleteChristmas shopping stressed me out for years. I now stress about things I enjoy more, like getting all the gifts made in time.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That is a better kind of stress for sure.
DeleteChristmas isn't about the stuff - I remember that and I am fine.
ReplyDeleteYou know I know that, but I was not sure the kids knew that, it was just a stressful time for me as a mom.
DeleteI too remember the right years but I hope I made my kids happy. They seemed happy. No one really lik s pecan pie but me so I never get it. It would be a waste as ai can't do more than a sliver because of how sweet but those bites are delicious.
ReplyDeleteI know and I could not eat a whole one even over days. Not a cream pie is different. I have now eaten 5 huge homemade chocolate chip cookies in the last 24 hours. No self control I tell you NONE....
DeleteI only shop for my grandchildren, and I have my daughter send me a list. That's it. I already gave my daughter her Christmas gift.
ReplyDeleteWe insist on a list now also, it just helps.
DeleteWe ate out on one Thanksgiving years ago and it was not the greatest so even if it is the two of us we do a full on Thanksgiving meal every year. We love the left overs.
ReplyDeleteWe did that the year our last was born for Christmas dinner. She was not a month old. Everyone in the restaurant, wanted to hold her while we ate.
DeleteI give my kids a check. I give my grandchild and the one I think of as a grandchild, a barbie doll for each of them. I have a little $5 blue tree I bought at Dollar General several years ago, and an ornament my kid gave me and I put the ornament up on the fire mantel. I have a red cloth tablecloth I use for Thanksgiving, and would use for Christmas if I were home. I am then decorated. I keep it low kid because I have a grown kid who is on the spectrum and really flips out at too much stimulation, even as a grown adult. My kid's father was the same way. When my kids were younger, I did have a little tree and gave them presents and had a decent meal with a meat, a starch, and a vegetable and a dessert, but I did not stress. No, I don't stress at Christmas. My kid would still act out so I keep it very low key and actually, I am going to my daughter's out West at Christmas, which avoids the problem of one of my sons become agitated. Cindy in the South I
ReplyDeleteWell my husband is also on the spectrum so I understand perfectly. Moving a piece of furniture or a painting in the house to another wall would have him over the top irritated. You do what you can.
DeleteI do all things Christmas (especially shopping) early, so I can enjoy the holiday season. Besides, I'm too stressed about work this time of year, and don't need the Christmas stress too.
ReplyDeleteI agree about having your own leftovers. We ordered Thanksgiving dinner one year and nobody really enjoyed it. I missed having our own leftovers that year and told DH never again are we ordering holiday food.
I only need pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Heck, I'll have it for Christmas too. I don't eat much sugar, but I'll gladly eat a pumpkin pie on my own, then regret it later...lol
