Thursday, Funeral

Okay there are $82.00 worth of flowers in here and it took me about 1 hour to put this together.  More blooms than the florist who wanted to charge $800.00.  I do not have a banner that says beloved husband or father.

We are off to graduation and then onto Pomery it will be all day.  Wish me luck.  I do have on my black outdoor travel dress and comfy sandals as it is supposed to be 85, but I am taking my raincoat and umbrella. I don't trust the weatherman.

I watched a youtube post about, how your home looks dated and I laughed.   1.fringe on lamp shades, YEP

2. doilies, or crochet items, YEP

3. gold picture frames YEP hey some are 200 years old

4. dark mahogany woods. again, with the 200 or more years old YEP

4. display of china and crystal YEP

Am I going to change anything? NOPE

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

I'm off like a prom dress ( such a bad girl)

  1. The arrangement is gorgeous and you are very kind to do it.
My hope for you is that you will allow yourself the time to do something just for you.
Oh and I have some of those "make you old" house decorating things also, but no doilies (other than one TheHub's mom made and I keep it in a drawer, not on a tabletop)

  2. Kim,
I had all those "old" things, too. No one ever said anything bad about my decorating. Well, "this house looks like my grandmother's house" was iffy. But, I thanked them...lol. I guess people thought I had no style. Yes, I did. I have always admired your choices. I didn't have any two-hundred-year-old picture frames, but I do have a picture frame that is oval and has the old, bulging glass over the picture. I think I read the same article. It sort of made me mad. I am collecting again the old things I lost. Okay, only two items have I gotten. Some is still in storage. I always admire your furnishings!

  3. The flower arrangement is beautiful! You are very talented, and I know it was a comfort to the family.
I think your house is lovely!
My house is eclectic and dated, but it is full of memories and comfortable.

    1. We will start an early attic club. That is our decor style.

  4. I think people should mind their own business on other people's homes unless they are an injury or fire danger. My two SIL's have probably what would be magazine gorgeous, but I feel no personality. My home fits me. I want clutter gone, but I want my oak, I want my pictures. I pay the bills. I pick the decor. Your flower spray looks beautiful. I'm sure the family was touched. But $800 is thievery for the same spray size and flowers. That's taking advantage of grieving families.

    1. Well the funeral industry is all about taking advantage of people while they are grieving. It has been that way for hundreds of years. I call my style early attic.
I actually giggled at all the things I was doing wrong.

  5. That flower arrangement is beautiful. My mother-in-law in Ky had an arrangement that cost $800. It was huge. But more than 3/4 of it was thrown away after the funeral. Especially sad as it was a fairly small service. Gestures of kindness and generosity like you just did with these flowers will mean so much to the family. Hubs and I are getting ready to go have dinner with the widow of his best friend that passed away in April.

    1. Well we pulled all the lowers and put them in vases, threw away the greenery that I did not buy but pulled from local trees and shrubs and I kept the saddle in case I ever have to do another.

  6. Beautiful flowers. I eat off my momma’s China every day and I display her crystal and use it. I had my son paint my kitchen a light bright green like my house was when I was growing up. I also have the same white cabinets with black hinges. I had growing up, and this house was built in1950. Folks can just not come over if they don’t like my house but my sons all tell me they love it because it reminds them of their granny. Cindy in the South

    1. Well we grew up with a bay grand piano in a closed off formal front room. It was full of antiques, doilies, fringe and all three of us girls have this in our homes. So I guess it is in the blood. I love while cabinets with black hinges!

  8. Lovely spray, and they won't miss the ribbon banner at all.

My house decor is dated as well, but I love it anyway.

    God bless.

  9. That arrangement is beautiful, Kim. The cost of flowers anymore is so expensive! I don’t see how many people can afford them these days. You’ve done a great job here. I’ve been told recently that things here are outdated as well. I never really thought about it before, and I guess it’s true, but it doesn’t bother me. If that was the only thing I had to worry about then I’d be all right. 😂
