Wednesday, breaking old habits

I love to spend money.  I love to find a bargain to spend money on.  I can justify spending money if I can save money.  However this is not always the answer.  When you are trying to get out of debt and save money finding a bargain is not always your friend.

Yesterday Hub's just had to go to the store, he said we needed groceries.  Okay I thought we needed milk.  But he had his list.  So I said ,"let me see the list"  I crossed off, salad dressing, and ketchup as those things are in the storage.  He only spent $26.15, on lunch meat (yuck) sliced cheese (he can't slice his own?) milk ( we needed)  Crackers ( none of them whole wheat) oatmeal (his kind) and flax seed (he did not have that on the list and we have an entire container in the cupboard)  SO happy he spent over $26.00 on groceries.  But I can't start harping at him this early in the year.  Hub's also received a ticket in the mail for running a red light in the city of Spokane.  He was not familiar with the traffic patterns and got stuck in a lane out in the middle and had to gun it to  keep from getting hit, but he still got flashed and a nice little bill for $136.00 which I will make him pay out of his savings. See how mean I am?  But I know how unobservant he is so I blame him not the traffic.( I'm not a witch, I'm your wife....)

Yesterday, I went to Joanns and spent $19.25.  Needs, and bargains.  So I must stay out of Joanns, as I am as bad as my Husband. I needed bias tape, and a yard of coordinating fabric, but not the double flannel remnants.  (they were just so soft and gorgeous and I plan to make my son-in law a denim and flannel car blanket)  Smack me and it was only the second of January, I am weak I tell you, sniveling and weak.

I also get the rite aid adds and plan how I am going to score things with points.  However I am no Sluggy. ( my idol, *sigh*)  I do save money but I don't need anything.  I have a good stockpile of things.  It is just that I was sad to see that part of my week I look forward to is figuring out the deals I can get and now I have to put that aside.  I also love perusing the grocery adds which come out today and going in for the loss leaders.  I do not need to buy any food right now.  Both freezers are stuffed and my storage has enough of everything for almost a year.  I would buy butter if it was on a good deal but other than that?  SO now another of my joys is gone.

As you can see I entertain myself by shopping.  I justify my entertainment by telling myself I am saving money.  I am SPENDING MONEY.

One thing I have done in the past is to stay out of the stores.  If I don't go in, I don't spend.

I also have plenty to do here and plenty of projects to complete.  I can entertain myself with things I can do around the house.

By the way the large table in the shop is half cleaned.  I hope to complete it today. I will not go into a store today.  I will have a no spend day.  Unless they have butter on sale.......:)  Snark!

I am really taking this serious, I am, I just use humor to beat myself up.

Have a great and productive day, staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. Kim, you will not like this new Rite-Aid scheme.....*Sluggy shakes her head in disgust*. I would suggest you don't go to Rite-Aid ever again. lolz
It's going to be one big headache is all I can say for now. I here they are sending out "new" Wellness cards to replace the Wellness/Plenti cards. The cashiers are all in a dither as this will be a big round of having to change all the customers over in addition to their usual work. sigh

    1. I noticed it was not really inviting this new year. We have been having way too much fun and beating them at their game. They are on to us.

  2. You and I are a lot alike on this subject. I have to stay out of the stores too, or my bargain hunting can end up costing me money. Also, I need to stock up on butter too!

  3. I ran out to buy Megan socks today (a need) and keep blinders on. I am determined! I am also WEAK!!! It's hard to turn down those deals when you know they are good and are something you will need some time soon. If you find a deal on butter; snatch it up! The least expensive I've seen is $2.59. My target price is usually $1.99. If I'm careful I should have enough to last until the Easter sales. If there are any.

  5. Hi Kim, Well we are in the same position. We are pretty deep in debt and I LOVE to shop. Hence the debt. Not all of the debt is from my shopping we had some issue's with our home but most of it is shopping and now? The party is over. I have plenty to do around my home I also have a couple crochet blankets I am working on so now I will begin trying my best to stay out of the stores and when I go to the food store, if we don't have to have it, I'm not buying it.
    Wish me luck!

  6. There are no butter sales between here and Clamco. I have not seen one butter sale. If I did, I would have to send it home with exbf to store in his freezer. I have no room.

I love to shop, sort of. I love to shop when I need shoes because it is hard to find ones that feel okay. But, I don't think I have a shopping gene.

I dated a guy that loved to eat and drink my cokes and all my food. I told him one day that I/we needed to go shopping and he had to pay. He stomped around fuming while I held my ground. At the store, I got milk, cheese and bananas, all less that $10. The next day he was still annoyed that he had to spend $35 on MY groceries. I reminded him of what I bought. I never ate chips or Mt Dew, or the candy he bought--over $25 worth of junk, and he still ate the stuff I bought. He knew I would not touch what he bought.

  7. I am not a shopper, unless I finds a deal on vintage linens, tableware, or glasses. I can easily feed over 100 people with their own plates and forks, (not so well stocked up on glasses) yet I salivate over even more of it. I am not sure what is wrong with me, so I stay far away from estate sales.

  8. I love to spend money on bargains too. I have been waiting for a hand soap sale from Bath and Body Works and I received the email this morning! I ordered enough to last throughout the year, which was only four bottles, as it's only me and hubby that live here. I was so proud! lol

  9. Right there with ya sister! I love a good bargain and the hunt that goes along with it. I actually dream of thrift store shopping...hangs my head in shame. Our home will be paid off in full in February and I will be put on a budget for my addiction...$60 a month is the agreed on amount (hubby gets that much a month already to cover his bowling league fees). Most of the money I spend is actually on the grandkids. Yes, I am that Grammie! ;) My girls now tell me what the grandboys need and I shop for it for them at the thrift stores. Of course I find fun stuff for everyone there too! :)
