Monday, Sad news.

Mom had a bad spell on Friday on our way up to Spokane.  We were half way so decided to go ahead and go to the city.  Thank goodness we did as mom has not been having strokes but has been having seizures. A cat scan was performed and a neurologist confirmed  brain shrinkage and brain tissue missing.  Now the seizures may have been brought on by mini strokes, but the brain showed no sign of stroke damage.  As mom has a DNR on her record and the last seizure was a terrible grand mall that could not be stopped without 3 large doses of meds, we decided to honor her wishes and seek no further medical intervention.

They bundled her up in a cocoon and put her in the back seat of my car.  She was comatose at the time. We brought her home and hospice is being contacted.  Mom has some semi lucid moments and she likes to be held and cuddled.  The younger two girls have been with me constantly through this mess and what a blessing they have been.

I am quite sleep deprived but that is getting better with help.  We had so much backed up washing and ran out of nightgowns and sheets,  that is finally under control.  I just want her to be comfortable.

I spent at least 12 hours yesterday deep cleaning her bathroom and parts of her bed room.  I just had to keep moving so I could keep my anxiety at bay.

I am sorry for not being able to comment on blogs but I am so behind right now.  Pray for my mother and for me. I will need strength to get through this.

Kim

  11. Oh, my friend, I am so sorry. Reading and commenting on blogs is the last things you need to worry about. I will be praying for comfort for your mother, peace for you both and for you to have the strength you need to care for your mother and the emotional stress that I am sure you are feeling.

  15. Oh, Kim, This must be so hard. I think Hospice will relieve lots of the physical burdens. I am so sorry you girls have to go through this. Does your mother have any idea what is happening? You are in my thoughts. Hang in there. I know how the work keeps you sane. Rest, too.

  16. I have walked this road with both grandmothers, and my husband's father. While it's hard, I've never regretted a moment of the time I spent near the end with any of them. (To clarify, there was lots of family support--not just me alone). I know you will always be glad you are there with your mom at this time. I also clean a lot when stressed. It's helpful to me.

  28. I hope hospice care works out for your mom - you need the help and usually they are such wonderful and compassionate people who know and understand what you're going through. So sorry it has come to this Kim but know you've done the best that you can do for her. She will be surrounded with love while on this journey - that's all anyone can ask. Hugs to you and your family.
