Monday, Get that week in line.

Here we have a whole week ahead of us to plan and try and save some money or at least make it stretch.  This house remodeling or I should say just fixing up is expensive.  On top of all my other money saving strategies I am trying to see where I can save with all this mess.

Our handy man brought me another project to work on for him. So that will help with costs.  Also trying to sew and get money in will also help.  I need to be diligent.

My plans to save money for the week are as follows:

1. cook all meals from scratch at home
2. use pantry items and freezer items to cook with
3. keep grocery store trips to one if any with only essentials purchased.
4. sew, sew, sew
5. follow handyman and ask what I can do to help save myself money (he is older so he does appreciate a hand)

Things I hope to have done by the end of the week:

1. kitchen floor finished
2. mom's bedroom fixed and painted
3. appointment remade for new carpet
4. go through kitchen and touch up paint
5. empty all drawers and closets in mom's room
6. empty all drawers and closet in spare room.
7. start boxing up non essentials in Kitchen and hall closet take to storage
8. make a list of all things that need to be fixed in kitchen with handyman
9. figure out Aunts airline tickets and use points to purchase.

So I have plenty to do, no excuses here not to try and save some money this week, by just working hard.

I was able to clean bathrooms yesterday after my nap and get the laundry done.  Took a load to Lil sis's to dry and had a nice visit.

Well I am off to see what I can get done this week.  How about you guys?  What are you going to do to try and save money?  Are you even going to try?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. It seems like forever since I have been here. Lots of catching up to do.

I wish you the best of luck with getting the house ready to sell and doing as much as you can yourself. I remember selling two homes and moving cross c county and back. It was a very stressful time. I pray that yours will go well.

    1. It is stressful, but we have time to do a little at a time. My biggest stress is keeping the costs down.

  2. We have been thinking about doing all of our own interior trim. My husband would like take a week off of work & get it all installed & painted. We don't have the right type of saw, so we need to price out the labor/time vs cost of the saw. Pretty confident we will still come out way ahead.

    1. with regards to the saw, check to see if your area has a "tool library". We just got one in Denver and it is awesome! For $100/year (and it's a non-profit donation!) we can check out any of their tools.

    2. It really was very easy and there are all sorts of tutorials on line that are so helpful. Also using square stock around doors is now popular and much easier.

  3. Home Depot or similar might rent tools as well.

  4. I think instead of actively saving I am just not going to spend anything. TheHub will be out of town most of the week and my personal needs are pretty slim. I can't think of anything I will really need this week. Except gas, I might need gas.

  5. STill eating mostly from freezer/pantry. Did buy food for the first time in 8d: salad mix, 1 head cauliflower, 2 cucumbers, Greek yogurt. Had a $5 card for discount!

    1. It is a lot easier than you think it is going to be. I think some of us buy groceries out of habit.

  7. We mostly eat at home. I have to go for tests without eating. The appointment is at 1pm, so I am making sandwiches for the both of us. Chicken sandwiches, halo, and water should work. I do not want Tommy's blood sugar to drop. And, I will be faint.

I not only try, but I succeed.

  8. Many people are confused about what the idea of organic actually means and so they think they can't participate in organic gardening. Organic gardening simply means that no types of pesticides or preservatives are used on the product which results in a much more natural form of the produce.

  9. You can do it, Kim. You hunkered down and paid off your house, so I know you can do this too. That's a good idea to follow up with the handyman and do what you can to save some money.

  10. We just fill a chart like yours. GO US. Didn't figure that would happen that quick. Doing a no spend money, eating from the pantry. Laundry on the clothes line or drying rack. Made laundry soap and noodles. We are saving for some projects we have on the house this year. Right now due to changing how we garden the money is going for soil.

  11. Traveling with groups can be frustrating to say the least. Who wants to miss their flight because one or more member of the group can't be located. One solution is to make everyone wear the same color of brightly colored t-shirts or maybe even visors that can be take off once you are in the air.

  12. Hang a mirror in your dining room opposite of where you're sitting. It has been proven that people who can see themselves reflected in a mirror cut the amount of food they ate by one- third. It seems that seeing yourself in the flesh reflected is a great motivator to eat less and lose more weight.
