Monday, New month, new goals

I am happy to see February behind me.  Spring will be here before the end of the month and I really don't like the cold weather that much.  I think winter is beautiful, but I could do with a two week winter.:)

February was a bust of a month for finances with me not coming even close to my goals.  We will make no extra on the house in February.  I did get my Aunt paid, and I paid off my debt for the month, but that is all I can handle.  Plus I did the grocery challenge and that helped a little.

I am going to extend the challenge until March 7th because we were gone for a week in February. I also think that I really need to get to the bottom of the freezer.  As I don't want things freezer burned. Although I can see that we are making a dent in our freezers, so that is good.  I still have to make jam with all the frozen fruit in fact I will go pull it out now and that will force me to get to it.  I mean really I can put things off better than anyone I know. Just pulled fruit, that should get me doing something with it!

February has always been a tough month for me, and I have always made it through by the skin of my teeth, even last year, but covid had not gone into affect yet.  This year even though I put off the accountant and taxes I still could not make it.  I am not used to that and it was disheartening.  I just have to remind myself of all the things I did do that were good.

1.I completed three weeks of a pantry/grocery challenge

2. I was able to gift my Aunt her $500.00

3. I was able to pay off a debt of over $1000.00

4. I was able to do all my saving strategies for the month of February.

5. I was able to go an see my daughter and family and Hubs parents

All in all other than not paying a $1000.00 extra on the mortgage I did okay.  I will work hard this month to try and achieve my goals.

I have to pay the bills today for the month and I have  a new debt to be paid off this month along with all of my other saving strategies.

I have plenty of sewing to do today, and I really need to start getting the taxes whipped into shape.  I do not want to do my taxes.*&^%$#@ Don't want to, don't want to.

I swear the chicks have doubled in size since yesterday.  I know they grow fast, but they already are starting to get pin feathers.  Too cute.  Schmills is coming down to see them after school. Well I am off to set the world on fire, or at least a fire under my butt.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. I am paying for lots of expensive dental work that is ongoing so I will be putting off any savings for a couple of months. I am just tying to maintain. I am pulling out my frozen mulberries to make refrigerator jam. It has been in the 80’s the last five days, so my mulberry tree will have fruit ready in about six weeks. It is too warm for February. I need to use up the frozen mulberries from last year.

    1. Oh to be some where 80 degrees sounds like heaven. Although it did get to 60 here today. Too bad I was stuck inside.

  2. I did our taxes online yesterday. Our return is really simple compared to many people’s but it was a @&$#&
I know why people pay accountants to do their taxes after the 2 hours I spent doing ours.
    Hope yours go much smoother!

  3. I think you did great for a 'slow' month. Quit knocking yourself - and start patting yourself on the back!!

  5. Yes, Kim...remind yourself of all the things you did do that were good. Like cheryl said, give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it!

    1. When my eldest has a bad day in court she calls it a rock star day. As in I knew I should have been a rock star.

  7. February was a struggle for me as well. I achieved most of my goals, but my sanity has been hanging on by a thin strand. I've also procrastinated a bit. I've had "deal with citrus fruit & empty out the fruit drawer" on my list for at least 10 days. I opened the fridge, &...there they are, all that fruit, still staring at me & making it impossible to open the drawer.

    1. Yes it was a struggle month, in way too many ways, but here it is onto March it will be better!

  8. So you achieved 5 of your goals but not 1 so you got over an 83% rate of achievement. 83% is still winning in my book!
Don't look back and go forward with a fresh slate into March...

  9. I am glad Feb is over with but I hate March as it's when the $$ flows out like a broken dam. Taxes, not only ours but Daughter 4s also. $3300 in medical (of a $56,000 surgery without surgeon's bills) and starting of putting the gardens in.

    1. Your March is like my February. I am afraid we will owe taxes so I don't want to know...

  10. You did well. You can't beat yourself up for not having a perfect month!
I don't generally have months that bother me but I dislike short daylight hours. In fact I like February because the daylight increases each day.
The pantry challenge helped me, but my freezer is so overstocked it made just a tiny dent in it. I am going to continue the challenge, sort of, through March.

    1. Yes and this month it will really make a difference in the daylight hours. Hallelujah! I don't like the dark of winter. I am making progress in the freezers.
