Wednesday, Sad and grateful news

Mom passed yesterday evening.  She had a fever from a bladder infection and while I was trying to cool her down and give her a fever reducer she had another bad seizure. I just sat with her.  Our youngest daughter was with me and she took this very hard.  She is gone, gone to be with dad and her parents and brothers.  She is happy and at peace with those she loves.  I am so very grateful.

Last night all I could do was say thank you over and over in my prayers. I hope someday to remember the fun mom I had.  Right now it is just a feeling of relief and sadness.

Thanks for your prayers now I need to be cheered up:)

Monday, Money saving Madness

Lil sis is home and has mom for the next three days.  She was shocked and in tears when she realized what this last episode has done to her. It is a huge change.  Mom was very disoriented when she was moved to Lil sis's house, she kept asking for me and calling Lil sis my name.  She was very agitated.  I think moving her back and forth will become an issue, but we will just see how this goes.  She calmed down when I cam over with lemon meringue pie, as I had promised to make her one.  She can't remember what we just said to her but she can remember I promised to make her a pie.

I start to teach and Irish workshop M-F for three hours a day.  So I will have to sew in the Afternoons and evenings. I have a wedding dress, two mother of the bride one bridesmaid, as well as 9 pairs of pants to hem this week so far and I know as soon as I plan to leave town people will be flocking with last minute things for the 4th.  It will be a busy week.

We are seeking a full time caregiver for mom for the 2 days a week that we don't have one.  This will give me a respite so I can work and have some time to myself.

Monday Saving Madness: June 3-17th 2018

1. Ate all but one meal at home and then used a gift card.
2. Used as much from the pantry and freezer as I could.
3. Used onions, lettuce, and peppers from the garden
4. fed food scraps to chickens
5.  Used clothesline for all the linens we had to wash
6. continued to use wax wraps and reusable containers to save on plastic and foil
7. ordered new sandals and danskos off Posh mark saving at least 200.00
8. Used lace cut off old wedding dress to remake sleeves on another dress.
9.  Mended my 4th of July wreath and hung it on the door.
10. Did major Swedish death cleaning of items in house and sent them home with daughters
11. replaced a zipper in a pair of Hubs outdoor trousers.
12. picked up several really good meat sales for over 50% off to restock freezer.
13. Only bought loss leaders at the store
14. Used coupons at Joanns for zippers and needed items
15.picked up marked down plants to add to holes in yard.
16. Took another box of scarves and things to good will trying to downsize clutter and crap.
17.  Gave D#2 my Christmas china as mother has so many sets and I don't need that many pieces.  Again trying to downsize things.
18.  Cleaned out several drawers and threw away many items no longer used that I did not think I should donate.

What did you do to save money?

Saturday, another savings sheet

I finished chart #9 and I am onto # 10 so that is another goal completed!
I also added another $300.00 to my debt payoff so I only have $275.00 left on this debt to complete my months goals.  So as it is just 1/2 way through the month I feel pretty darn proud of myself.

I was able to get mom out last night and we went to the banks and to Costco.  She enjoyed her time out and then we were home to have dinner.  She is anxious to get Lil sis home as she has been gone for over a week.

I walked the 5 mile bridge loop this morning and I am going out to plant a few flowers soon.

Don't have any real plans for the day, I need to do laundry and ironing and I would like to make some pie crusts and go and get my nails done.  I probably should do a little sewing buy I don't really want to.  I will finish beading some sleeves for a wedding dress alteration then I just have to attach them to the dress.

It will just be an easy putz day for me and I get so few of those.  I will get mom out again for a while today.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Friday, Update

Mom was a trial yesterday.  She did allow me a good nights sleep but was very sick all day.  I was constantly being summoned into her room.  Even with my help she managed to get bile all over the sheets and down the bed skirt.  I fell like all I do is laundry.  She seemed to get better about 6p.m. and was finally able to hold down some food.

How does one die with dignity.  Mom fusses and cries.  I did rub her hands and feet with lotion for about a 1/2 an hour and that seemed to calm her down.  Hub's and I were able to take a walk last night as we had a neighbor girl come and sit with mom, who was asleep.

I became very frustrated as I had a wedding dress that is due out today and I started on it at noon and was not able to finish it until 10:15 just too many interruptions.  The shop had constant customers and of course everything is due out next week.

Rather than complaining ( but I like to)you can see I was able to put a significant chunk of money on the debt I am working on so even though I am frazzled and running I am still making progress.

I will be teaching a workshop next week every morning from 9-12.  I have help with mom full time M-W and will get further help for Thursday and Friday.  I would really love to still go to my eldest daughters, at the end of the week if possible.  I will see how mom fairs.

I really hope I can get her up today and out of the house. Hubs plays again tonight.  Mom has not been out of her room since last Saturday except one time.  That has to be awful.  This process of leaving you earthly home is not easy.

Have a great and productive day, staying positive while you are in the negative.

Thursday, No Hospice

Mom does not qualify for Hospice, but her doctor has stepped up to help me make things easier.  She is off all her meds but a few and has more things for comfort which helps me some.  She is getting up and around and actually was able to get dressed yesterday.   This sun downers syndrome she has developed is the hardest, but last night was good, almost 8 hours of sleep.

I was very disappointed that Hospice could not come in, I tried not to count on the service and I think I did a little too much.  This whole last episode has made me a little more resilient when it comes to how mom treats me.  First of all she is failing rapidly, she can't remember what she says, I will stand up to her meanness by just doing what I want and walk away.  She will forget.  This has given me a sense of peace.

I am trying to just concentrate on my monthly goals.  I am doing well and have posted a chart on where I am on my last goal for the month.  The shop is still busy and every pair of pants that comes in I tell myself I am closer to getting out of debt.  Just keep on plugging.

We really need to grocery shop here and I plan on doing that tonight after Hub's goes to the pit for the show he is playing in.  If mom is too weak I will get a sitter.

This is a very boring post but it is where I am right now.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Tuesday, Qualifying for Hospice

Hospice workers were here at 9 a.m. this morning and they were very nice.  Mom's condition is such that she doesn't really fit any diagnosis.  Medicare is very strict about this and I can see why.  As this is a free service they must be careful that it is end of life care.  I feel she meets the criteria, but we will see.  What I do know is that I am done with the hospital dance.  We will see a neurologist and that is the last of the visits.  I will give her medication that I feel will make her comfortable and help with her anxiety and pain.  If we have to we will hire people to come in and help.

It is obvious to me now that mom is having seizures as when her meds wore off she was able to walk a little, talk although confused.  She has a hard time getting words out.  Night time is awful as she is up and extremely agitated.  But I am through arguing with her and I am going to just do what I think is best.

I had a good friend bring dinner by last night which was lovely.  I need to buy groceries and might try and sneak out later today, but the shop will be busy.  It was very busy yesterday and I have much to do today.  B (D#3) is here until 4 p.m. so that will help.  B can come down M-W next week to help and then Lil sis has Sat-Sun.  So that leaves me two days to find a care giver.  The problem is nights.  Even with getting up with mom last night a couple of times I still was able to get almost 7 hours of sleep and I can handle that.

I have a wedding dress to get out today and several other things.  I would like to cook something for dinner as I have not cooked since last Wed.  I find comfort in those kinds of tasks, silly I know.  Cleaning, ironing, cooking, planting, all bring me a sense of peace at this time.  I think I will make meatloaves.  Cheryl suggested making extra mashed potatoes and freezing in cupcake cups and then rebagging in containers.  Mom loves mashed potatoes so I will do this.  I get such great ideas from the blogs. Thanks Cheryl, Cheryl's frugal Corner.

Well I am off to get some work done and try to get a bill paid off.  Life goes on and we are lucky to live it.

Thank you so much for the comfort wishes and the prayers it really means a lot.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Monday, Sad news.

Mom had a bad spell on Friday on our way up to Spokane.  We were half way so decided to go ahead and go to the city.  Thank goodness we did as mom has not been having strokes but has been having seizures. A cat scan was performed and a neurologist confirmed  brain shrinkage and brain tissue missing.  Now the seizures may have been brought on by mini strokes, but the brain showed no sign of stroke damage.  As mom has a DNR on her record and the last seizure was a terrible grand mall that could not be stopped without 3 large doses of meds, we decided to honor her wishes and seek no further medical intervention.

They bundled her up in a cocoon and put her in the back seat of my car.  She was comatose at the time. We brought her home and hospice is being contacted.  Mom has some semi lucid moments and she likes to be held and cuddled.  The younger two girls have been with me constantly through this mess and what a blessing they have been.

I am quite sleep deprived but that is getting better with help.  We had so much backed up washing and ran out of nightgowns and sheets,  that is finally under control.  I just want her to be comfortable.

I spent at least 12 hours yesterday deep cleaning her bathroom and parts of her bed room.  I just had to keep moving so I could keep my anxiety at bay.

I am sorry for not being able to comment on blogs but I am so behind right now.  Pray for my mother and for me. I will need strength to get through this.

Thursday, Almost under!

One more house payment and we will be in the 30's on the house.  It is going fast now, it seems like we just got into the 40's. Exciting I tell you.

I completed chart #8 and am now onto #9.  As I am out of town the next two weekends and also the last week of June, I don't know if I can get into #10 or not before the end of the month, but I will try.

I spent a good 2 hours yesterday in the garden while Hub's held the baby and the other little and the puppy played outside.  We all got very dirty. It was so nice and warm.  I still have a few flowers to plant today.

My niece and her daughter are coming to dinner tonight with mom and Lil sis so I need to get ready for that.  I will pull meats from freezer.  Everything is here so no shopping.

There is a small pile of alterations to do and then I have two business suits and at least 4 bridesmaid dresses to get done today.

I have to do a little banking and run to the dollar store first thing so I can get my day started and get into the shop.  I am so excited to be going up to D#2's this weekend.  I will take mom. Hub's has to stay home for the show he is playing in.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Tuesday, Plans for the week

Mom is over at Lil sis's with her granddaughters today.  So nice to have the day to myself.  I have many things I want to accomplish.  I was not able to get much done yesterday for some reason I just could not get motivated in the shop and I must today.

I did walk the bridges last night while Hub's was in rehearsal and that was nice. I also have dinner ready for today for Hub's.  We have a potluck at church tonight that Hub's will not be able to go to because of rehearsal.  I will go and I think I will make a couple of Swedish almond cakes.  I am having my niece over for dinner on Thursday, so one for tonight and one for Thursday.

Friday I am going up to Spokane with D#2, I will have to take mother with but she will enjoy the baby and she can boss us around.  She loves that.  Hub's has rehearsals and the show opens on Thursday.

As I won't be here Friday I will need to get major sewing done today.  The little's come tomorrow and I needs the money.  Now where to get my motivation is another story.

     1. Make cakes
     2. water flower boxes
     3. empty all trash cans and reline
     4. Put away laundry and iron the few pieces that are in load
     5. clean up puppies things all over house, toys, shredded papers, pine cones, sticks.
     6. Sew, sew, sew,

     Okay, still not motivated.

Maybe a large diet coke from McD's?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Monday, A first and Money Saving Madness.

For the first time in my life I sat down on the 1st of the month and paid all my bills.  I will incur no late fees, everything else will come out of the checking automatically.  I mean the house payment and all the other bills, power, phone, medical, paper,Internet, misc, and everything. In a few months I will set up auto pays for many of the smaller bills.  It is the most wonderful feeling to not have to worry and fret and remember.  I have been getting closer to this goal all year but never could fully in good conscious do the house payment.  I always had to wait for more money to come in.  Well that does not have to happen any more.  I can now devote other income and checks to my debt.

I was also able to pay off the overdraft protection so that goal is out of the way.  I will work on the other debt for the rest of the month.  This will free up another $135.00 to put toward the last of the debts.  I am so excited to get to the next debt, then we are down to 2 and then it will be one and then the house.  I know this is counting chickens, but I have to dream as it keeps me motivated.

My sister's oldest daughter is visiting with her daughter.  Lil sis is so excited.  They went on a jet boat trip down the canyon today.  D#3 is here with mom and that is so nice.  She can entertain her and take her places and I am free to do what I need to do.She is spending the night with her cousin so I will have help tomorrow.  Yippee!

Money Saving Madness May 27-June 3

1. Ate all meals but one at home (mom paid for lunch out)
2. Most food came from storage or freezers.
3. Purchased marked down bananas for bread
4. Picked herbs and dried them
5. picked lettuce from garden
6. purchased marked down plants for holes in yard.
7. Did a grocery stock up on loss leaders at Albertson's, only items purchased were on the lowest price for the season.
8. worked on projects with recycled materials.
9. Went to Penneys with mom and found a few Christmas presents used 2 $10.00 coupons so total for gifts $15.47.  2 nice scarves, three pairs of nice pj pants for son in laws, a couple of things for grandsons.
10.  Rite aid, used $10.00 in plenti points to purchase razors and earned more points so FREE.  Thanks Sluggy!
11. Made a skirt for Lil sis for her upcoming trip. The fabric was $2.50 as a remnant, I added the ribbon waistband which was off a customers garment and
she didn't want it.  The lining was from leftover project and even the elastic was given to me.
This is boxy but can be worn with a belt, but I like the loose look
12.Here are a couple more projects.  $1.00 dress from Wal-mart with lace added.  Also new dansko sandals from posh mark $40.00

13.Here is a dress that I let down the hem and added $2.00 of lace. It was just too short for church, but this saved it!
14. Switched all winter and summer clothes and got rid of a huge bag of things I no longer use.
15. Used my indoor clothesline and out door fence to dry many items.
16.reused containers and wax wraps.
17. Purchased several pounds of meat at 50% off to stock freezer.
18.  Picked up water crackers at Winco on a close out for .25 a box.  Bought all of them.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Friday, Free day!

I was able to get all the sewing due out this week done yesterday so I could have a free day.  This is a day to catch up on laundry, ironing and few projects I want to do in the shop.  I have some flowers I want to plant.  Maybe work in the yard a little.  Take mom out to get some fun.

New goals for the month are to pay off the overdraft protection, a little over $900.00  I also want to pay off another bill a little over $1400.00.   I almost have enough for the Overdraft loan.  I set up my addsense account pay and with what I have in my checking left from last month and the addsense monies and my my work I think I will be able to do this as soon as the addsence money comes in.  So my only goal will be the later bill.  I also want to complete chart #8 and see if I can get into chart # 10.

After these bills are paid I will have two others besides mom's loan.  Again my plan is to only owe money on the house by the New Year.  This is if nothing happens and youngest does not announce she is getting married.

I am paying off all these little bills in the order of interest and balance.  But every time I get one paid I add the payment total to the next bill.  Let me tell you the snowball method works.   Getting the house loan and the studio lock paid adds another $500.00 a month to our income so these smaller bills go fast.  When all these little bills are paid I can add another $500.00 a month so I can really sock out the house loan. Now if it would only help me get the dining room painted.

Well I am off to pay the bills, drive around town and deliver to save stamps (it is a small town) I am going to put together 2 skirts, and make a few baby blankets and burb clothes, I am on a roll.  I think I will take mom out to lunch.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.
