Well, I don't know where to begin. I did not get to go to Hawaii. We spent almost 3 days in airports getting delayed due to weather. Half our group made it. After hours and hours in lines and airport food and nights in hotels and uber rides we all had to foot the bill for, we opted to have the airlines fly us home to avoid another hotel stay and more meals out Nd an air flight to Maui from Honolulu. The airlines just wore us down. Then we would not get our luggage until the day before we had to leave. It was just one disappointment and nightmare after another. I am going to try and get points reimbursed as the airlines did do a screw up, but they told me to wait a couple of weeks as phone lines are terrible.
So, what did I do besides grieve? I stayed the first three days with Sissie. I curled up in her basement in the dark watching crap TV. Then I went home during the daylight hours and worked on the yard and did things besides sewing. I went up to B's and made freezer meals and did some deep cleaning and decluttering. She is quite sick with this pregnancy. I refuse to sleep at my house, so I wasn't alone. I know not a very mature reaction. But part of going on a trip is to be with people. I am alone most of the time. I am back in the shop and sewing again for the first time in 10 days.
I am still crushed but I must say the weather in Maui was crap, so I didn't miss mush there. I would have had fun with my friends. Just a huge disappointment.
My new chicken coop is almost done and I love it. Signe' and Nate have worked so hard. My birthday is tomorrow and they are trying to finish it for my birthday.
Sissie and Dan were so funny. They tried to do a hula for me. Then Dan took a bunch of dead daffodil blossoms and pinecones and made me a makeshift lei. My best buddy brought me over a Hawaiian pig sandwich, which was very good.
Sissie and I deep cleaned the shop this morning and moved her machine into the shop and did some rearranging, so I have my dining room back.
Anyway, I am home and working and that is what is important. Anything happen important out there?
God is good, even if her sends bad weather.
Kim
Holy cow girlfriend, that is quite a non-vacation. Glad at least you weren’t stuck in a horrendous small airport somewhere, but still. I am sorry it was a train wreck. Yet everyone is safe and sound and you are okay…guess that is most important. Welcome back to the coal mine known as life ;). Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteYes after staying that long in the airport home was a gift.
DeleteI am so so so sorry. I am not sure, since it happened while you were gone, if you know that PP’s Tommy died? I think she said March 14th. I am suppose to fly out West to see grandkids in a few weeks and the lines at Atlanta at 4:30 am are out the door. It is unbelievable. I hope you get another vacation soon and that it is fun. Virtual hugs. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteOh how sad, She is going to have it very hard without him. I hope your flights are better than mine.
DeleteI'm so sorry. You worked so hard before to be ready. Hopefully another chance will come soon. It actually was mature of you to realize you needed people and utilized your support system.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fiasco.
DeleteI am so sorry that your holiday did not work out. Hopefully you can fit another one in soon with your friends.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I hope so.
DeleteI kept seeing the news out of Hawaii: record rains, old dam about to fail on one island, thousands evacuated, and kept thinking "I hope Kim is safe, I hope Kim is safe." Sorry your vacation was crapola, but am truly grateful you are back safely. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY (well, tomorrow, but birthday greetings do not expire)!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do believe I dodged a bullet; it just would have been nice to know as soon as they delayed the first flight.
DeleteLinda has posted that Tommy died March 14.
ReplyDeleteI heard and I am so sad for her.
DeleteThat comment was from Michele in NoCarol, your years-long follower who never comments for complicated reasons.
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome complicated reader, you and I could be friends.
DeleteOh no, I am so sorry. And here I was hoping that you were enjoying your vacation and not stuck in the flooding in Hawaii. I hope you made a video of your Sissie and Dan doing the hula. :D Happiest of birthday wishes, and I hope you and Sissie have a great day.
ReplyDeleteTrust me no one needed to see that.
DeleteMy sister-in-law lives in Maui. She has been posting about how bad the rain and flooding is there. Sorry your vacation was ruined.
ReplyDeleteI dodged a bullet.
DeleteI am so sorry to read about your non-holiday Kim - sometimes these things just don't work out. A friend from New Zealand flew to Hawaii to visit her new Grandchild & said the weather was just dreadful the whole time. xx
ReplyDeleteI am assuming I would have had the same thing.
DeleteI'm sorry that happened to you.
ReplyDeleteBut you are so very blessed with your family. It made me smile to see how they tried to cheer you up!
It was lovely of you to use your time to help your daughter when she needs it most.
I can make do in just about any situation.
DeleteSorry your plans didn't turn out how you hoped. Our nephew lives in Maui, and the rain and flooding have been really bad.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have your family to spend time with.
So I have heard. I might have dodged a bullet.
DeleteOh No Kim! I'm so sorry your vacation was ruined. I hope the airline will make it up to you in someway. That just stinks. Happy Birthday today! I hope today is a good day for you and better than the last few days.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm sorry your trip was wrecked. I will say, I watch the daily evening news. I've heard no airline issues. Only TSA issues created by failure in Congress, as well as the weather in parts of the country and the terrible rain/flooding in Hawaii. None of this is in airline control. So, curious minds?
ReplyDeleteI realize that, we just picked a terrible time.
DeleteApparently, we share a birthday - Happy Birthday!!! I am so sorry to hear about your non-vacation. I understand. I was looking forward to my kids coming up for my birthday or at least for Easter but that has been put off until at least Memorial Day. I don't have any other family around so it's been a lonely day so far. But, chin up! We have to keep moving forward. Enjoy your day and take some time for YOU! Lisa (ladybug24)
ReplyDeleteHey happy birthday you! I am happy to have you as a birthday friend.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your trip. I had another friend who was there & her other group didn't make it, and the weather was terrible. It sucks to have a trip ruined, but still be out of pocket for all of the costs & delays. Hope you get something to cheer you up at home! - Hawaii Planner
ReplyDeleteThank you, still praying for your loved ones every night.
DeleteI wondered about the weather. Sorry you didn't get the trip you wanted or needed. It has to be a blessing in disguise - really. You could have gotten there, and something worse happened. Another time and day.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY
