Thursday, No Hospice

Mom does not qualify for Hospice, but her doctor has stepped up to help me make things easier.  She is off all her meds but a few and has more things for comfort which helps me some.  She is getting up and around and actually was able to get dressed yesterday.   This sun downers syndrome she has developed is the hardest, but last night was good, almost 8 hours of sleep.

I was very disappointed that Hospice could not come in, I tried not to count on the service and I think I did a little too much.  This whole last episode has made me a little more resilient when it comes to how mom treats me.  First of all she is failing rapidly, she can't remember what she says, I will stand up to her meanness by just doing what I want and walk away.  She will forget.  This has given me a sense of peace.

I am trying to just concentrate on my monthly goals.  I am doing well and have posted a chart on where I am on my last goal for the month.  The shop is still busy and every pair of pants that comes in I tell myself I am closer to getting out of debt.  Just keep on plugging.

We really need to grocery shop here and I plan on doing that tonight after Hub's goes to the pit for the show he is playing in.  If mom is too weak I will get a sitter.

This is a very boring post but it is where I am right now.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. Sorry that you ill not be getting that extra help. God knows you can do this. Just remember = that sooner than later Mom will be forever a memory - so do what you can for her now.

I remember how hard it can be - but I am so glad that I got to help Mom however I could. I have peace knowing that I did what I could.
    God bless you.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. Caring for the elderly is never an easy job, especially when they don’t realize what they are doing.

  5. I am so sorry you are not getting the extra care for your mother. I know it is hard and beats you to a pulp sometimes. I love what you said about reacting to the the meanness. Yesterday Mom and I had a tiff and I left her alone afterwards. This morning I called her, as usual, and she had forgotten the entire thing. I need to remember that her reality does not have to be the same as my reality.

  6. Oh, Kim, I really wish I could help in some practical way. I am praying for you and your lovely family and sending you telepathic hugs across the Atlantic.

  7. I just want to say hugs. You are doing admirably, and have to keep your own wellness front of mind-yeah, meaningless coming from me, right?

  8. I am surprised, but that is good news, isn't it. Spend your mother's money for her care and for help when you need it to care for her. Spend her money so you can get sleep, too. This may last a long time, and you need your rest, time alone and time in the yard. I am not suggesting you rob her and take advantage of her, and you know that. Take care.

  9. I am sorry to hear this. My grandmother went through sundown syndrome in February and honestly has never been the same. She was a fairly nice person but she hits, screams, and gets confused, hallucinations. It has bee difficult. You know all to well I am sure. Praying for your strength and peace.

  11. I'm so sorry your mom didn't qualify for hospice care. Dementia is such a terrible thing, both for the person who has it and for the family that has to face seeing their loved one essentially disappear before their eyes. Although my dad died in April, we lost him long before that. My thoughts are with you.

  12. Hang in there! I've seen lots of patients stop taking most of their meds and they get much stronger physically. It's amazing those terrible side effects we put up with... I hope today is a good day.

  13. I'm so sorry, Kim. If not hospice, do get some extra help. You've mentioned your mom having the funds~I would use them to provide for her (and give you a much needed break!)

  14. (((((((HUGS)))))) my friend. I too am so sorry that your mom did not qualify for Hospice. Please do make sure to take those needed "respite breaks" for your own sanity. Praying for you.

  15. Oh, Kim, I'm so sorry to hear hospice can't help. Does your state have respite services for caretakers? I know that's been a help for my co-workers dealing with relatives with dementia or other intellectual impairment.
