Saturday, Off to the market

I am going to Moscow this morning with my Lil sis and two girl friends.  I will buy nothing as it is too expensive but will go along for laughs.  I have a package for D#3 and a gift I bought for her on our trip.  She will meet us for lunch so I can deliver them.

I am still trying to learn to use my Ibotta app and I keep making mistakes.  But eventually I will get it.  I am actually taking back some groceries and having them rerung.  See what a pain I am?  But hey $3.75 is worth the effort.

I was able to make 8 dozen meat balls yesterday and I froze enough for several dinners and took some to the neighbors.  I also made banana bread with bananas left by renter.  I took a loaf to neighbor and then froze the rest. I keep all the drippings to make my own gravy.  I freeze this in small dabs in plastic bags.

It is nice to be able to take out a bag of meatballs a dab of gravy drippings and then with some mashed potatoes and a veggies have a great meal.  Also these are great for sending to a sick family with out much work.

I love these small loaf pans that were mothers.  I have 8 of them.  I also made three large loaves.  So nice to have a sweet in the freezer when you are craving something.

There were 8 mealy apples and some wilted celery in the crisper when we got home so I made up a large bowl of apple, celery, raisin and nut salad.  I hate to see food go to waist.  Well it usually goes to my waist.

So yesterday I spent the morning cooking and the afternoon sewing.  The shop is a real mess right now and I really need to organize it and get things going.  This vacation mode of mine has got to stop.

My house desperately needs a deep clean and the garden and yard are begging for attention.  I am out running around in my spare time having fun.  See what I am like?  It is probably a good thing Sluggy and I live far apart or we would get into all sorts of trouble.

My sisters and I can also cause  trouble when together.  But it is fun trouble.

So this weekend my plans are to have fun and get something useful done somewhere.  Like maybe the downstairs really cleaned.  Yes that is a good plan. Maybe organize the shop a little.

But , who really wants to work?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. YUM I want to come to your house - it all sounds so good.
You ever heard that phase "all work and no play......". You need a nice break after the past year. Sisters need to hang out.
Hope you had a fantastic day!

  2. Well I am making soup tonight as the temps dropped drastically on Friday and it now feels like FALL....yippee!!!
Went to the church auction this morning and only brought a few things home this year.
I need to get my paperwork in order and then pack for Cape Hatteras for next week's trip to see my brother. It doesn't seem like I am going to be home much in October.

  3. I hope you have fun on your non shopping shopping trip. I really do admire your cooking for the freezer and keeping something on hand for someone who needs a little helping hand. I keep things all the time to take to someone at a moments notice. I even found a stack of 50 aluminum trays with cardboard tops (like take out food comes in) that are perfect for a meal for 2. I bought a lot of very inexpensive ground chuck this morning. Since TheHub has gone to the ball game (Roll Tide) I am going to be making meatballs and small meatloafs for the freezer. It is entirely too beautiful to stay inside and cook, but I am going to anyway. I might even run back to the store to snag enough extra ground beef for chili and spaghetti sauce. Surely the temps will drop low enough to eat chili at some point.

    1. It is still hot, in my opinion. Just because it is 68 does not call for hot food. The pavement and everything is still warm. My basement will keep my house warm for days. It is rock, one ft thick and five feet high.

    2. Well I cook ahead because I am kind of lazy and don't want to be bothered all the time.

  4. "But, really who wants to work?" I DO!

When I want something rung again, I never carry the product back, just the receipt. As long as you have the receipt, the store does not need the product.

I need to figure out ibotta!

    1. Ibotta is tricky, I am trying to understand it, but it can be a nice way to save.

    1. I had that custom made and then stained it as the top of the stove slanted and things could fall behind it.

    1. It is a joy to cook ahead plus I was able to go through mom's recipe box and use her hand written recipes. Great memories.

    1. I exhaust me. I don't work full time like you and still have a kid at home. Now you are using your Saturday to bake.

    1. It is a natural thing for me to do. I think it is in the genes of our family or something. I see a need I try to fill it. It must be a gift or a curse :)
