Tuesday, I gave it the old college try

Well I was only able to raise $370.00 toward my Aunt's $500.00 so I had to withdraw the remainder from my checking account.  I have to remember that February is a really slow month. I did get two more wedding dress calls today so they will be coming in when I get home.

Any money I spend while on our trip will also come out of the checking account, so that will keep me from doing anything crazy.

I did get all the rest of the bills paid and Aunties card in the mail.  Also ran and paid the computer doctor for our virus protection which is due this month. Then ran the gift cards over to my girlfriend who is having surgery on the 12th.

I also got in a long talk with my Sis today and that was nice.  I fill my 1,5,10,20, envelopes for the next two weeks, but put nothing in my 100 envelopes for this week, just don't have the cash flow.

So far the pantry challenge has been going well.  I used leftovers from Sunday dinner for lunch and dinner on Monday, and I cooked up 8 chicken legs enough for last night and lunch today. We should also finish up the applesauce and salad today.

I noticed that there is quite a bit of produce left in the fridge that will not last until we get back, so I will do some kind of salad for dinner today and take what ever is left with me to mom and dads.  I am sure she will have no fresh ingredients and that way I will not waste. But the nice thing is I will not have to buy any groceries this week.  I am sure I will buy some things for a couple of meals at my daughters.

We are running up to B's (D#3) and having lunch there so we can see Oliver.  We have not seen him in almost a month and I just want to see him before we go.  B was supposed to fly down with D#2 but she has taken so much time off with the baby and then the covid quarantine she did not want to stress her co-workers any more. There are only a certain # of essential workers to run that plant.

I also have to get my act together and get things organized for our trip.  What am I going to pack?  Get the dogs stuff ready.  WHO will feed the cat. (I just thought about that) Get some cash make sure the smelly trash is emptied.

D#2 and I are getting our nails done today at 4, so I need to remember that.  Boy I do have a busy day ahead of me. Also have a bridal fitting at 10a.m. I should probably make a list so I don't forget something.

I was over at Lil sis's late this afternoon and when I looked at my watch I realized it was 5:10.  I told her I had to go as I did not realize it was so late and I needed to get Hubs dinner.  He really wants to eat by 6 as he gets very hungry with his fasting diet and I want to support him.  I also save a great deal of money on groceries when I have a dinner cooked and he is not roaming and hoovering through the fridge and cupboards. Lil sis just  does not understand how I can or do make dinner almost every evening.  I just do.  I think I always have when I have the time.  I mean there are days when I tell him he is on his own but them I have to deal with whatever mess he makes. I just always plan and make dinner and I usually make up his plate.  Is that weird? Do you usually make a meal every night? Do you plan it? Will you make up a plate for your husband if you are say eating in front of the TV?  DO you find it odd that I do this?

It is going to get cold here while we re gone, as in the 20's.  The weather should return to the high 40's by the time we get back, so we might miss winter all together.

Are any of you going to be affected by the cold snap moving across the country? I know Slug's is up to her neck in now, but then again her neck isn't very high....

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

  1. A meal is made every day here and it is just me now. I have always made a meal every day - sometimes more than one.
Hey, $370 is better than nothing!!!! That was a big percentage of what you needed.

    1. I know and I am pretty proud of that. February is a notoriously slow month in the shop. Actually the slowest month of the year, for the last 10 years. I do track my business. So I am grateful for every dollar toward what I needed.

  2. If it's pizza or burgers/fries Where I'm making up plates, I will, but in general, no. During this work from home I'm cooking 26/30, with a leftover night or two and take out or pizza. We all got to do what works for ourselve. I did akways find it odd that my sister akways left things to say she needed to make dinner for her husband. When he passed last year, we realized it was just their thing to make sure they had time together everyday since they often worked opposite schedules.

  3. I used up several ingredients from my pantry stash for dinner yesterday. It's always good to get the lurkers out of here.

    1. Well leaving town I am doing the same thing. I will take a bag of veggies with me to mom and dads.

  4. I hope you have a wonderful visit with your daughter. Maybe you will be able to get some rest too. Have a safe trip. Glad you have been able to get things taken care of before you go, and I know your aunt will appreciate the help with her taxes.
I don't think it is odd that you make a meal every day or that you fix your husband a plate. We usually eat supper together as a family, esp with covid limiting the kids activities. I admit I get tired of cooking some days though and some of my meals are uninspiring, but they feed the body if not the soul. :)

    1. Yes I too get tired of coming up with dinner that will also be lunch the next day. We have our tried and true favorites, but even that gets old.

  5. I put every bite on Tommy's plate. And, I cook most every night, it seems...lol. I even carry it to him most nights. Only if I don't think I can walk with two plates does he get up and get his own food. If I go to bed because I am not well and he is going to need dinner before I get up, I tell him what is there. Sometimes, I stack it all in one place. Rarely does this happen any more. I did figure out I was having a reaction to a medicine, so I was not so ill.

At least you attained part of your goal, better than nothing.

    1. I figured you probably took Tommy food as he has a hard time getting around and I think that is very good of you.

  6. I cook every evening, with help from Peyton. I do a weekly meal plan, and try to make it around things we have, rather than choosing a meal and buying ingredients. But I am not always successful! Steve doesn't cook much, and that is fine with me. The clean up isn't worth it! Have a cozy day!

    1. You and I both agree a husband in the kitchen is sometimes more work than it is worth!

  7. Well the first 18+ inches(actually it's the second storm since Dec's foot on snow)only partially melted(about 6-8" of it) when we had a sunny day last week so now we have another 2 inches and are suppose to get another 3 after that bit is done. Then it's snow every other day basically for the foreseeable future. Big snow year here!
And I cook dinner every night except my shot night, then Hubs has to cook or serve us leftovers. I can stomach what Hubs makes ever now and again but I don't want him cooking for us all the time. He's got a limited repertoire plus he can't go "off script" and it takes him twice as long as a real cook to make anything so we always end up eating dinner late(which isn't good for me). I'd rather not cook but if he's my only other option I'll cook. lol I'd rather have him on clean up detail.lol

    1. Yes men have a tendency to get creative with the wrong spices and come up with some inedible options. Joe is not allowed to pepper anything or add any raw onion even though I love onions and a little pepper.

  8. I cook every night, but now that it's just the two of us and I still seem to be cooking for four, we eat lots of leftovers (either for lunch or for dinner). My husband is a big help with grilling (I prepare the meat, marinate it or get it into the sous vide, but he finishes it on the grill). My big complaint is (and I can remember my mother asking this and she died more than 30 years ago) I'm always the one who has to decide what we're going to have for dinner. I can remember my mother saying "just tell me what to make!" I get it now!

    1. I know. It is that deciding that drives me nuts also.

  9. I cook dinner every night. Mon-Fri because of work we each do our own breakfast, left overs or salad for lunch. On the weekends I do all three meals. I enjoy cooking. Even though we eat at the dining room table I do make my husbands plate as well. It's just easier. Before Covid we ate out maybe once or twice a month.

  10. You set a big cash goal for a short month! Way to go getting mostly there!
I cook most nights but if things happen or I just don't feel like cooking we do take out. TheHub is a horrible cook but he is a great food procurer.
Sometimes when I cook I fix his plate and sometimes I don't. It depends on what we are having.

    1. I was pretty proud of myself. My husband is a horrible cook also. He tries to grill and he is pretty terrible at that also.

  11. I plan the menus for hubby and me each week. (4 kids are grown.) I do all the cooking. I really do not like him in our small kitchen! We now plate our meals at the counter right from the pans and then sit down. I don't put extra serving dishes out. That's just more dishes. Isabella

    1. I usually plate right from the stove also unless I am serving company. Because after you eat if there are leftovers they will go in a small dish and you are right. Why do more dishes?

  12. I do all the cooking as I know what's in the freezers and pantries and have ideas of what I want to use up immediately or what to leave alone for meals down the road. When our girls were younger and learning how to cook, they often made breakfast or lunch, and gradually grew confident enough to make dinner as they got older. My husband barbecues as I'm terrible at that. I burn everything and we don't appreciate charred food :) We both share the responsibility though, of preparing the food for barbecuing.
I always plate my husbands meals. My reason is twofold: he will overeat as he doesn't seem to know when to stop, or because I plan to have leftovers for another meal. Pat

    1. You and I jumped off the same start sister. Hubs does not know when to stop and he will fix himself a huge plate and I often make enough for the next day. He will eat it all. He actually gained 40 lbs the first few months we were married. I would tell him he didn't have to eat a whole bowl of potatoes we could have leftovers. This was due to his mother not cooking enough food for 5 growing children. She was cheap and selfish and those kids did not get enough to eat. So when food was available they ate as much as fast as they could.

  13. We share the cooking, it depends who feels like doing it, some nights we all eat different things. Most nights we cook.

  14. I know what you mean about getting ready for a trip away from home. Thehubs is usually sitting in the car with the motor running as I am trying to shut up the house. lol We cook 5 or 6 times a week. I don't do breakfast, too much nausea in the am for me. I chop, prepare, lay it all ou in order with the spices, oil, and pans. I get it started and thehubs stands at the stove and stirs and finishes up. We fill our plates at the stove and then eat at the bar while watching the news. Then I clean up. I take lots of pictures of him stirring the pots and all my girlfriends say I am spoiled. He is a meat and potato man, no casseroles here, no quiches, nope, meat, potatoes and more vegetables for this guy. We have never really eaten out much. Our chain restaurants might be good one day and awful the next. Our local mom and pop cafes close after lunch is served. The old saying "Don't eat food that is cooked by someone you would not ask over to visit".

    1. My guy is also meat and potatoes and veggies. It is one way to control his weight. I do a few casserole things, like enchiladas, spaghetti, lasagna, some pasta dishes, but usually only once every other week. He just way overeats with a casserole.

  15. I cook something every night (or pull something I batch cooked out of the freezer). I once told someone I could count on my two hands and perhaps one foot the number of times we eat out or order in during a year.

I don't dish up Harvey's plate though as we are usually at table for meals.

Getting ready for a trip always has me making many lists.

    God bless.
