Thursday, Thrifty Thursday

It is very boring here.  The shop is very slow..... Not something I expected at this time.  It is kind of nice as I have no pressure. I do have several items I can work on and I did get 4 pairs of pants done yesterday, but other than that have an attack of the lazies.  I am just so used to being so flipping busy and having constant clients that this is weird.

Both Hub's and my cell phones are not taking or receiving calls as something is wrong with the company.  Great!  You wonder why business is slow?

I may start a car quilt to keep my mind occupied. Or maybe I could talk Hub's into starting to flip the bedrooms.  We will see.

I went to two different Albertson's yesterday for the whole chickens they had on sale and both were out.  SO aggravating.  I will try to run out today as they were supposed to get more in. We eat alot of chicken and I wanted to pick up at least 6 of them for the freezer.

There was a large article in the paper about natural gas going up 30%.  It is scary as things just go up and up and our income certainly doesn't. And why?  What is the reason?  Someone is getting rich some where. I am so grateful we have moved to a smaller house.

Thrifty Thursday:

1. saved all my spare change in my pig bank

2. saved all my $5.00 bills, have saved $60.00 this last 2 weeks, total of $2,200 so far. There is $85.00 in the cash box until the next $100.00 is put in savings.

3. saved a $1,$5,$10,$20 bill for the last 2 weeks

4. filled at least 8 envelopes in my  100 envelope challenge for the year.  I was behind so I decided to try and catch up.  This means in order to finish I will have to save a little over $110.00 a week in two envelopes per week to meet it.  As slow as the shop is right now that may not happen.

5. We took the truck down to dad's funeral as we thought we would need it and gas was outrageous.  But we did look for the cheapest places to fill up.

6. found .5 cents this last week

7. Used food from our freezers and storage to make meals at home.  I think we ate out once while we were gone.

8. Redid my MIL's living room for about $700.00 (she paid) custom made drapes and furniture coverings, wallpaper, saved her a bundle.

I am a beauty with no makeup  and my chia pet hair

9. Cleared everything we could out of the garden and it is done for the year. Ended up with enough eggplants for a good batch of eggplant parm.

10. Hub's shucked a 5 gallon bucket of sunflower seed, we will use to feed birds in the winter and a little to the chickens. SO I don't have to lay up bird seed for the winter.

11. picked up a few loss leaders at the store and stayed within the grocery budget. Boy are prices going up!

12. downloaded all rec'pts to fetch.

13. placed an order to WAWAK a sewing house for dress bags, and sewing supplies.  I will save over a thousand dollars doing this. A small package of white bridal hooks will cost $4.99 here and there are 12 sets of hooks. I ordered 144 sets for about $12.00.  Also bridal dress bags that I can resell for a klondike mark up. Needles are now about $1.00 a piece and needles break and wear out.  I can get them here for less than 1/2 what I pay at the stores.

14. fed chickens all of our food scraps

15. got a large bowl of frost plums from neighbor for eating and boy are they good.

16. got $5.00 off my nail's for bringing my manicurist fresh eggs.  Fresh eggs here are about $5.00 a dozen and we always have extra.

17. traded sewing for having Roscoe watched at the end of the week when our regular sitter had to leave town.

Well I have plenty to keep me busy here.  I did not do well on the challenges I set for myself last month in cleaning out the drawers and closets.  So I just might start looking at that again.

What did you do to save money this last week? Anything inter sting?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

  2. Such great ways to save. I need to make more eggplant parma tomorrow and if the oven is on I may as well make a loaf or two of bread.

    God bless.

  3. I laughed at your chia pet hair comment! I looked at my husband a few weeks ago and said he looked quite a bit like a chia pet, hair wise ;). I have curly hair and now it is gray (I color it) so I have even more curl due to the grey…and when it gets humid, wow, what an effect. Not sure if you remember Don King, he was Muhammad Ali’s manager, he had hair that stood straight up ;). That is my look when it gets humid ;)

  4. I chased down a few deals at Walgreens, soap and toothpaste. Oh, BOGO pizza at Publix. Nothing spectaular. Transforming your MIL's home was certainly a labor of love. You are so talented!

  5. Curious, dies breaded or just eggplant slices freeze well for future parm? That would be nice to tuck away for winter if it does. I wish I had a skill to barter. No one wants my job skills, deep thinking on data systems and public policy, in exchange for produce. You raised both skilled and brain smart girls. I love what you accomplish ed for your MIL.

    1. It freezes well, but I don't have enough eggplant this year from my own garden. I got free eggplants last year from my lil sis's doctor. Don't know if he will be giving them away again.I think bartering my skills is how we survived, but you have a very good job and that counts for something my dear.

  9. Nice work saving during a busy few weeks. Here's hoping the shop returns to a manageable while profitable level for you. Enough to give you the income you need, while also giving you some flex in your life.

  10. I just saw Farm fresh eggs for $7.50 in the store. I can tell you there are dozens of signs around us for fresh eggs for around $1.50 to $2.
