We got the call early this morning that Mom's last brother passed away. He had been going down for months and hospice had been called in this last summer. We took mom twice to see him and she spent several hours by his bedside. Mom was one of 5 siblings and she was the oldest. She was also the only girl. The family later adopted a sister for mom so she would not be alone with her brothers. We are sad but also glad that it is over, especially for my Aunt who has bore this burden for so long.
Right now I have 4 things left I have to get done in the shop. I will take in no more work until after we get back. Hub's has to play in the pit the next 4 days so I know he will not be going to Missoula.
I have a letter man's jacket and started to replace the patches. I also have a bridesmaid dress to hem and a zipper to replace in a hunting jacket and one prom dress to finish the alterations on. My girl friend came yesterday afternoon and was having trouble fitting a bodice for her mother of the bride dress.
Good grief she had cut out a bodice at least 4 sizes too big for herself. She has a Mae West figure or as I call it a 24 hour glass figure and they are hard to fit. The fabric was expensive and the bodice should really have been thrown out. As it was I cut out another bodice out of scrap material and fitted it to her and made her tear the one she made apart then tore apart the new fitted pattern and re cut out the pieces. As she was doing the ripping, I sewed the 3 layers of the skirt together and also made the sleeves. I put boning in the new lining and she had never had a boned bodice before, that sucker zipped up and fit her like a second skin. The dress is now hanging in the shop waiting for a hem and a few finishing touches. People take your measurements and trust them!
My left wrist is blown and so sore. When I woke up at about 3:30 this morning it was stove tight. It is a little better this morning. I need to hurry and get all the sewing done as the right one will soon follow. Now what is causing this? Weather change, maybe? Because we all know you don't need to use your hands to sew. It is always something.
Pray for me and my mother she is taking this really hard. I cannot imagine being the only one left of my generation.
Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.
Kim
Oh your poor momma I imagine she is sad. I will be thinking of her.
ReplyDeleteShe is okay but sad. Thank you.
DeleteI am so sorry for your loss. Prayers that God comforts you and your family during this sad time.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteI know your mother is sad and hope this will not make her ill. A surgeon, when I complained I could not sew with my badly injured hand, asked me, "You can't sew with one hand?" I am sure he noticed the look I gave him. I hope you can get things done before the right hand goes. How will you drive? I can sew for my daughter long distance and have things fit perfectly because she follows my directions on measuring herself. If she did not measure correctly, I could never successfully sew for her. I hope you can get everything done so you can get to the funeral and back.
ReplyDeleteI will have to miss the funeral but will go and pay my respects to family.
DeleteI am so sorry for your loss. I know your mother is devastated even though she knew it was coming. Wishing you the very best with your hands since they are kind of critical to sewing.
ReplyDeleteWrists are much better today.
