Kim has an attitude, and it is a poor one at that. Sh does not want to do anything and there is a lot to do. I will have to really talk myself into getting my butt in the shop. It is not even going to be a really bad sewing day. I only have one stinky job and the rest are easy. I should be out of there in about 2 hours. But so far have not even opened the door.
I am eyeing the door with malevolence. I want to escape. I want to go peruse secondhand stores, I want to go get mums and pumpkins. I do really need to go to the bank.
I think I am just tired of sewing and I am tired of the pressure. But things are I think slowing down. Okay I hope they are slowing down. I just have to keep the pressure on myself for one more week and I am sure to be out of the mire.
I am supposed to have clients picking up today, but who really knows if they will show? Should I stick around for them? If I get the work done set for today, next week will start a lot easier..... Hmmmm..... the thought process....
If I had a chocolate bar or a doughnut maybe?
Kim has started a load of laundry and hung it on the line. Kim has put away some clothes. Kim has done a few things. I cleaned out both crispers in the fridge. I froze some peppers. Kim is trying to make herself feel like she is actually doing something important. None of the above is or was important. These were avoidance tactics to stay out of the shop. Kim is very good at avoidance tactics.
Make a list, do the easiest thing first, do the hardest thing first, do something, do anything. Sorry not working.
I did get my quota done yesterday, and it was a long day. My back hurt by the end of the day. I do have a limited time I can stand sewing anymore. But I was able to get myself to do even the things I had been putting off, like the damn Christmas stockings (6 of them), and the heavy zipper in a jacket. I did them. But today nada, nothing.
See the list:
1. hem bridesmaid dress
2. hem bridesmaid dress
3. alter flower girl dress (easy)
4.hem mother of the bride
5. alter mother of the bride (hard) 1/2 done
6. straighten up shop started
See easy day. I can do this. Set timer. What will I do first?
Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.
Kim
"Damn Christmas stockings"? Why take on a project when you feel that way about it?
ReplyDeleteWouldn't your time be better spent on something you prefer to sew ?
YEs, but I took these on last February before I got busy and then was slammed and I have been putting them off.
DeleteHmmmmm - maybe Kim sets the quota bar too high each day? Do what you can and the rest will be there tomorrow. Zipper in a heavy coat and Christmas stockings can wait - it will be a while. Do what needs done now kiddo and you will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI think my real plan id to get as much done as I can so I can be with Hubs. I will be in Pullman next week for three days while he is in the hospital. The more that is out of the shop the better I will feel.
DeleteWho are the stockings for? I don't remember new family members. I agree if you don't enjoy, I'd put that lower on list. But, I know someone might be expecting them.
ReplyDeleteI took these on last February before I got slammed. They need to be done and actually did not take long. Just one of those projects that site there staring at you.
DeleteI think you are burned out on your job. I hope and pray when you get your house paid off you can take a couple of months breather and relax. Hugs. Cindy in the South
ReplyDeleteI am truly burned out, and it will be at least 3-4 more years before the house is paid for, if I would quit traveling and put everything toward the house it would be different, but I refuse.
DeleteI agree with Sam, maybe if you could have a way to see what your financial goals were and mark them off, you could see progress? A thermometer or something like that? Otherwise it is a bit like Lucy in the chocolate factory….Hilogene in Az.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a hell of a year and I don't think it will be as bad next year.
DeleteI'm with Cindy, and also think you are burned out. Which, sucks. Can you get more help in the shop? Take on less work? Dedicate two hours a day for just yourself?
ReplyDeleteI am honestly burned out, and I am thinking of taking Fridays off and only having a 4-day work week. If someone has to come on Friday, they pay extra.
DeleteYah, i feel meh, too. This, too, shall pass. That’s the rumor, anyway…..
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Oh I hope so.
Deletemaybe Kim needs to remind herself of her whining when she was SLOW in the business and could have shopped the thrift stores LOL... SMILE KIM
ReplyDeleteI know. I do remind myself of that and I am now looking forward to it. Reminder to self that I like to whine no matter what the circumstances:)
DeleteHope it gets better!! I wonder too, do you hate your job and have to do it for the money? Or is there room to change up the type of service you offers to be happy about work?
ReplyDeleteActually I do enjoy sewing. I am just burned out with the heavy season, plus all the things going on with hubs.
DeleteI am so much like you. Too many times I sit back and ask how did this happen? I
ReplyDeleteam using your 15 minute timer idea. You are going to get through it.
I know. I think I am just really tried. It has been a long bridal season.
DeleteAgree with Practical Parsimony that you should increase your rates. You have a rare talent that is seriously underappreciated. I'm guessing that the sewing you do for the missionaries is pro bono. After all, you are Kim. And Kim is a nurturer. :-) A wonderful trait, but you do need to nurture yourself a little more regularly, even if it's a nap, quiet time, or anything else you enjoy that is inexpensive or free.
ReplyDeleteRegarding customer pick-ups, could you set specific hours and require appointments outside those hours? Not this season, perhaps, but beginning January? You would know you have periods of time to sew, run errands, do housework, or enjoy a little Kim time. Appointments are required for almost everything. That should include Kim's services!
Ensuring that your DH's appointments are made through you is an excellent idea! More work for you, but if you know you are committed to something, you seem to handle it well. I can understand his confusion and frustration with not being able to hear well. That is more than enough to cause agitation!
Kim is very productive most the time. Kim does need some down time periodically. Here's hoping a better balance will become Kim's "normal!"
...Taja 🏜️
I am hoping next year to shorten my hours. As in only have a 4 day work week. I am just very burned out.
DeleteI was looking for a blog I usually find here. It is all the way at the bottom and is just text when I click on it. It is unreadable and unreachable. Then, I noticed mine is there and not working either. I checked all the blogs at the end of the list of blogs and none of them are viewable. Is this on purpose?
ReplyDeleteI am not sure.
DeleteI know how you feel about not wanting to get in there to work, I feel the same way some times.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you found the get up and go to get in there. 😊
Well we all get a good case of the lazies once in a while.
DeleteHa ha ha...Being there, doing that! That is too funny!
ReplyDeleteI know, you and I jumped off the same start honey. On my bucket list is to come and see you. We would have so much fun and laugh so much.
DeleteOh that would be so great!!!!
DeleteI agree with a few of the commenters here - increase your prices! It costs me $20 to get anything hemmed - you should be charging at least that!
ReplyDeleteI am actually raising price of hemming and sticking to it.
ReplyDeleteI am actually trying to charge more for my time, except for Sr citizens. They are on fixed incomes so I am careful.
