I think things are slowing down. Or maybe I am just more organized. I am not sure what is different, but I am not feeling as stressed as I was a month ago. Now don't ask mee how I will feel in a week. Just today is positive.
More bridesmaid dresses and flowers girl dresses coming in rather than wedding dresses and that is just fine with me. Much less work and stress.
Report on B's place. We were able to get 5-33 gallon bags of donations out of that house. Mostly baby clothes, and things, B's things she will never get back into, and even Dan was good about going through his clothes and getting rid of things from his high school years. I was very proud of them. We threw away and donated large pieces of furniture that were too large for that apartment and allowed them more room for the baby to play.
Hubs came up to help with babies, but we are on a smoke health watch (it is so bad here right now) so he could not take Kelsa and Oliver out. Signe', I and Braunwyn worked hard, and we had babies under foot, but we just did our best. Hubs and Dan carried out the large stuff and helped a lot. Kelsa and Oliver would hold hands and run from his bedroom across the living room holding hands and laughing. So much more room for him to play. It was sweet to watch even though they undid any toy pick up we did over and over.
We all wore out by Saturday evening. I had planned to go back Sunday after church, but I was too sore and tired. Also, B needs a day off as she is going into her 7-day rotation shift change. Dan is running his plant as his boss is out of the country again, so he is in charge and will work 7 days a week also. Plus, he gets called back in whenever a graduate or a doctoral student has a problem at the lab. No wonder he can't finish his Master's. Frustrating.
So, we were able to really declutter, and deep clean the baby's room and their room. Baby things were packed away and the crib was taken down to be stored. We took out a huge tv credenza that was made for a large house and had them store all the cd's and dvd's in a storage case in alphabetical order. We moved a bookcase that we decluttered, into the bedroom as the crib and a makeup table that were not used was taken out.
We bought under the bed storage containers, for baby things saved. Also, a box for memorabilia for each of them. This really helped. We also deep cleaned the front room and part of the kitchen. I plan on going back up in a couple weeks, after shift change to do the laundry room and the bathroom and finish the kitchen. There are two large closets we did not get to, and one is a huge walk in. But it needs more shelving so we can put things on it. Like baby things they are saving. B's father-in-law who watches Oliver a couple of days a week is going to take care of that before I go up again.
We worked ourselves to death, but we also had a good time and lots of laughs. There is a plan in place for shelving and a a corner storage unit that we have to find. The place is just so much more livable. I was happy with what we got done.
I have a had a busy last three weekends. I have pushed myself a bit too hard, so next weekend is a no large plan weekend. I can't believe how fast this month is going. Hubs has a pre operation meeting this week and his surgery is in a couple of weeks. Yikes!
I also can't believe I completely missed 9/11. I always called one of my dance students as it was his birthday. He is over 30 now with 3 children. I have never missed a call. But I called him this morning. Maybe the horror of that day is finally diminishing, although the girls and I all talked about it when we were cleaning.
Well, I have work to do so I had better get busy. Have you got any plans for the week?
Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.
Kim
I suppose the horror won't ever go away, and sadly more horrors have happened since. But, joys, loves, travel, babies, weddings and friends have happened too. I need a kick in the pants to declutter. Always more to declutter. Your daughter did great getting so much out of her apartment.
ReplyDeleteI know it is just something we live with that awful memory. But such great acts of kindness and heroism came out of that too. I think we proved that our country is strong and resilient. I was shocked at how much stuff they had and also I was happy at their willingness to get rid of said crap.
DeleteSounds like you guys did a great job. Those kids sure have a lot on their plates. Gee I wonder where they get that work ethic!! LOL. You have one hard working family - you should be very proud.
ReplyDeleteI know, but I don't want them to be like me. I think the middle daughter is the most like me in her work ethic. The oldest is smarter about her time. I hope the youngest is like the oldest.
DeleteSounds like you got so much out of there! How refreshing for them I’m sure!
ReplyDeleteI know it had to make a huge difference.
DeleteWay to go on all the decluttering and cleaning, Kim.
ReplyDeleteThanks Belinda!
DeleteMaybe I am missing something, but if she is having a baby why did you take down the crib? That is a lot of cleaning, tossing, donating. Big furniture should never be in a small place with babies, too. Oliver is enjoying his new space, it seems.
ReplyDeleteNo she is not pregnant. She was just overwhelmed with the apartment and over worked and needed a mom to come help her and I was glad to do it.
DeleteSounds like you all were able to get so much done in a short period of time. It's always nice to do a big spruce up and get rid of things not being used.
ReplyDeleteAs hard as it was I am so happy we did it. It made her so happy. I could just feel her sigh of relief when I left.
