Friday, National donut day!

Just so everyone knows, Kim took all her money to the bank yesterday and will be making weekly deposits from now on.  I was actually scared when I sat down and emptied the envelopes and counted all that money.  Then I took it to the bank in a plastic grocery bag and assured the teller I was not selling drugs. You know they are always finding drug money in plastic grocery bags. Luckily it was one of my former students, and she knows perfectly well what a dingbat I am.  She was like "Oh Miss Kim".

Today is national donut day not that I need a day set aside for donuts, but it is nice to celebrate. Don't know how I am going to do that as I had a 10:00 bride, an 11:00 pickup, I have a noon bride,I have a 2:00 bride, I have a 4:00 bride and a 5:00 bride.  I need a donut delivery service and I don't think there is one.  Which I find just tragic.

Hubs is up helping daughter with the babies today and they are at Schmills field day.  I have the dogs and I am telling you sometimes the babies are easier. Last night after a very long, hard, frustrating day in the shop, D#2 brought dogs down and the little shits immediately take off while Hubs and I are watering. Her new puppy is a runner and the older dog just follows for fun.  This is the second time we have had to hunt them down.  I was tired, and I needed to get to the grocery store for a few things and my nerves were so frazzled. I know it was Hubs that let them out as he pays attention to nothing, but I did not accuse, I just melted down and told him I was going to have a stroke.  After we drove around and found them,  I told hubs he was driving and he was going to take care of me.  I needed taken care of, I just could not stand one more bit of stress.  I think I scared him, because I take care of him and he has no thought about my state of mind.  So he drove right to MCd's and got me a soda and an icecream cone:)

Anyway we got groceries, and even though we just picked up fruit, and salad things, and a few loss leaders, like butter, we still spent our $60.00 food budget for the week.  I did buy two good sized roasts as we are feeding 6 missionaries on Sunday, and they had roasts for $3.29 a pound. I have found that meat and potatoes, gravy, biscuts and a simple dessert are what they want and this is the cheapest way to feed them.

I have 6 wedding dresses in the shop that need to be picked up, and I have 19 in the shop total.  I am frustrated with people not picking up their dresses. I don't have the room and it just gets dang overwhelming to have this much stuff in a small room.  Hopefully I will get a couple out today. It makes me feel overwhelmed and I don't do well with that feeling, as it triggers my ADHD and I start to get nothing done.

This is looking into the shop.  Look at that rack.  I have no where to put things.

The entire wall, it is crazy.  Now look at the closet where I usually hang things that are done, but it is now full of both because I have no room. Which gets confusing.

I have dresses hung in the closet as I have no place else to put them which is why I need people to pick up.  I think I am going to start a storage fee if dresses are not picked up with in a week of a call.

I feel like I am sewing in wedding hell.  I am so grateful to be busy, but it is frustrating when people don't pick up. Amy suggestions in how to solve this problem without sounding bitchy?

I mean I have to work in this environment.  Would you be overwhelmed?

Okay enough of Kim complaining, as it is not solving anything and she needs to get to work, so she can go out tonight and get a donut.  I hope there are some left.  Now I have something else to worry about......

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. I would definitely explain when they drop off items that any item not picked up with 48 hours of a call will start being charged a holding fee. You shouldn't have to deal with that. The item is finished, they need to pick them up. Happy Friday to you!

  2. ((((((((HUGS))))) and take some much need deep breaths my friend. Maybe you need a clause in your contracts that says dresses must be picked up within x amount of days after alterations are finishes or there will be a daily fee for storage. That might light a fire under some lazy people...just saying. ;) Praying your stress levels go down quickly.

  4. Tell the brides, "You have X days to pick up your dress after contacted. After that there is an additional $20/day for storage!"

  5. I like looking at the photos of your shop, Kim. I would probably be overwhelmed with all those dresses too.

I looked at the doughnuts today, but did not buy one. I bought a chocolate muffin instead. LOL

  6. Agreed on the fee for storage. Also, might mention hubs will actually take them to a storage unit and he can pick them up when they are coming. I would not want a guy handling my dress and would not want them in a storage unit. Maybe mention a storage shed in yard to store them. Scare the beezezers out of them. Also include a clause about your not being responsible for dresses put into storage. Mention that you cannot take in more work if there are too many items in your sewing room. Don't mention your stress, just lack of space to store items. Have this typed and signed by the customer. And, smile when you present the contract/receipt.

  7. I agree about a storage fee - I definitely would try to pick my stuff up on time, and would want it home with me asap! Smh. Glad hubs took care of you, those naughty doggies!

  8. Yes, for sure tell people very politely that there is a holding fee for late pick-ups. Also have it written in a contract but remind them in person too. This is a business, not a storage unit! And do not feel bad about this. Your problem will be solved. If not, there is more cash coming your way.

  9. I agree with everyone about charging a fee.

Is there a Krispy Kreme in your neck of the woods Kim? They definitely deliver! Add your diet coke to that and all that stress will melt away :)

  10. Definitely call and ask them to pick up at such and such a time. Let them know there will be a fee for holding them over the pick up day.

Take it easy, and I hope you got your donut.

    God bless.

  14. head of contract in large letters and highlighted. Items not picked up with in such and such will incur fee of such and such for EACH day as it affects business... check what the local dry cleaner is charging . Ours not only adds a daily charge but will sell the item after 30 days.

    1. adding this... I was going to make doughnuts for doughnut day but instead got woke up at 2 am by granddaughter(daughter 4's oldest) whose axle broke (they aren't hurt which her man posted on Fb that was what was important. and their second car they just bought to fix up still needed tires (3 bald) and they didn't have enough money to do both but both need cars which led to can I borrow $$$... then Hubby had a really bad day at work, nothing went well here at home, then Daughter 4 called with her new ultra sound (they were checking her cancer) shows a tumor on the outside of her stomach and then Son 2 called to tell me HIS car was broke down and he needed us to tow it and lend him my truck... I need more than a doughnut

    2. Oh you poor thing. I am so sorry about your daughter. If it can be solved by money it is really not a problem is it? We have bought many sets of tires for nieces and nephews when we see the bald things they drive to school/work on.

  15. Definitely add a storage fee. That's nuts, and I would be totally overwhelmed by all of the dresses in my work area.

  16. Happy Doughnut Day!
I would definitely start a storage fee for late pickups. Personally barring some horrid event I think a 3 day window is long enough before starting a late pick up fee. But then__I have a black heart!
