Thursday, First thrifty Thursday of the year!

It is boring here I tell you.  I have no work in the shop and as we had another 8 inches of snow last night, I will have no work come in or get picked up.  People don't drive here when the snow is bad and most of them shouldn't.

I spent a couple of hours last night mending my great grandmothers white crocheted table cloth.  I swear someday it will be more mending than crochet. I am not even 1/2 done yet, so will work on it again tonight.

There is plenty to do here in the house, but am I doing it ? NO!  Why?  Because I would rather sit and be a slob. It's a little more fun and not nearly as much work.

Made a large 9/12 pan of scalloped potatoes and ham last night and they are better today.  But poor hubs will have to eat them three meals in a row so I pulled out some frozen pumpkin and a crust  from the freezer and I and making him a pumpkin pie for dinner. I think I will freeze the rest of the ham and take the bone and make a big pot of navy bean soup.  I will get the beans soaking after this post.

Things I need to do around the house:

1. make beds

2. load of laundry

3. put away all Christmas in front room

4. make a pie and do the dishes

6. clean the sewing shop, it needs love

7. vacuum the rugs and bedrooms

8. continue mending tablecloth

Hubs took down the Christmas tree for me.  Wasn't that sweet?  Now I have to get all the boxes put into the garage, which will be a game of Jenga.

As I cannot get out and walk I am getting no exersize. So house work it will be or just sit on my butt, which I can do so well. Having perfected butt sitting in my youth.

Thrifty Thursday:

1. saved all my change

2. saved $5 bills added $15.00 to mortgage this week

3. saved $4.97 for the month in my penny can or was it $4.96?

4. saved two envelopes on my 100 envelope challenge added $100.00 extra to mortgage

5. flipped a lamp I found at goodwill, made $40.00 profit it will go on mortgage next week

6. ate out of freezers and pantry.

7. only bought butter, and a can of whip cream for groceries this week.  Butter $1.97 limit two

8. Went to a friends to get something laminated, traded for sewing advice.

9.  saved a $1,$5,$10,$20 bill in an envelope for vacation money

10. used coupon for zipper at Joanns

11. drove around to find the cheapest gas to fill car.  Found it for $3.14 as apposed to $3.51 most places.

12. Found new bobbins, for buy 3 get three free which was a bargain

What did you do this week to save money?  Anything  inspiring?

I think I will force myself to go do some house work. I bet I can get that pie in the oven and everything else done on the list while it bakes.  Let's see if I can. okay?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

  1. Anything inspiring? NO - just stayed home all week. Haven't left the property or spent a cent. Using what I have and reinventing lots of leftovers!

  2. Oh gosh, mostly just the usual. Sold a few things, gave away a bunch of stuff on Buy Nothing, picked up free cauliflower rice, used a $20 grocery store promo, ate leftovers... resisted the urge to buy random crap I don't need.

    1. It is resisting the urge to buy random crap that gets to me.

  3. Hi Kim!
Everyone seems to be getting snow except us here in PA!
It is quite cold, so maybe we will see some soon. The lake hasn't even begun to freeze. I have started putting Christmas away. I hate doing that. I want to go back and do it again! I am trying to use what food we have here, so I am getting creative! Hugs, my friend.

    1. It is a sad time, but I always think my house looks so much bigger after I put everything away.

  4. I just put six free thighs in a cooking bag along with six half price bscb and Kraft Italian dressing. Tommy exclaimed as he watched me that those were really large thighs. He wants salad for vegetables. Fine with me! That is all I have done all day long! I am recovering from the med I had to take and took a nap.

You really do need a good sit to prepare for the inevitable onslaught of sewing that will surely come.

  5. We rarely get snow that sicks here so 8 inches sounds like heaven.
I am doing nothing away from the house and no online shopping so I am having about as frugal week as possible. I did spend a whopping 22 bucks at the grocery store this week and that is it.

  6. A day here and there of down time does not make you a slob! We need to all cut ourselves slack. I hear you on the exercise. IT has been bitter cold and walking the dog is the most walking I've done, and once he's done we are back. I put trust YouTube on and try and keep up with the fit toned gals, but they can't see me and send me positive words of encouragement that I am doing so well. I spent more at the grocery store than I intended as i got provisions for my daughter ad husband who were under the weather, without Covid. boy has orange juice gotten expensive. I need more vegetables in the house-we only have a handful of baby carrots, some sad celery, a few odd potatoes, some zucchini, a couple squash. There's some canned and frozen, but I'm trying to heft the vegetables in my meals. If I didn't want more veggies, I could stay out of the store for at least another week.

    1. That is something I am going to have to go and get soon, is more fresh salad fixings, but hoping to put it off until next week. I used to do walking videos, and might have to take that up again.

  7. This was my first full week back to work and it was a bit brutal but I haven't spent a cent.
Tomorrow we will go grocery shopping. We're still pretty stocked but it's been three weeks since we shopped except for fresh veg and fruit so I want to get it done in case we get bad weather in the next few weeks.
Enjoy your down time!! You made me want another pumpkin pie so that is on my list to make for tomorrow. YUM!

  8. Been jumping medical appts. Got a nice break until the 18th. Pulled out Daddy's exercise bike (handles move also) to start working with it while watching the news, just like Daddy did.

  9. We had about 8 inches of snow a week ago, got that cleared out and are now getting more.

I have a feeling you will be overwhelmed with work once people can get around so try to enjoy the enforced slow down.

You had a great frugal week.

    God bless.
