Saturday, Rainy, still with a bad cold

I only sewed until 2:30 yesterday and when I had the three dresses done along with a blouse I had forgotten was due out Friday afternoon, I decided I was done. I laid down and went to sleep.

Several people were picking up but hubs just took the into the shop and asked then to find what they needed.  Finally a little before 6 he had to come get me as a suit came in that needed marking.  I was back in bed by 8 and slept hard until almost 10 this morning.  It was lovely.

I can't say that I feel any better, but Dayquil seems to be helping me function a little.  I ran some errands, and then I am home to just rest. Neighbor brought over leftover food bank items and I need to process some of that.  It is more than I can handle.  I am  making a large apple, pecan, celery salad and will take some to friends.

I also need to find recipes that use brown rice.  I love brown rice, but would like to have a way to cook it other than plain.  Like maybe chopping some onions, celery and flavorings in it as a side dish?  I need to peruse some recipes.  I also have chicken broth in the fridge to use up.

I would like to get out today but it is just too rainy.  It really rained hard here yesterday we got over 1/3 an inch, which in this dessert climate it very good. As it was so dry last year I am trying to be grateful for the rain.

Now I am going to go lay down for a while.

Have a nice weekend and Happy Mother's day!

Kim

  1. Glad you got extra sleep - now go get some more.
I use brown rice when making fried rice many times. I add it to soups.

  2. An old acquaintance used to fix rice with salsa and cheese on top. I’m not a fan but you may like it.
Glad you were able to sleep!
Send some rain our way, please.

  3. I'm sorry your cold is lingering. My daughter told me the Chipotle brown rice is also seasoned with the line and cilantro. I also know the chili lime seasoning from Trader Joe's is so good with it, and you could probably find a copycat.

    1. You know I never think about lime and cilantro. I am growing cilantro on the deck.

  7. Sorry to hear you're still feeling bad. As for the rice, you can take it whatever flavor profile you want with seasonings and lemon or lime and any kind of broth. Mexican, Thai, Asian, Creole...endless possibilities.
I hope you enjoy your Mother's Day!!

  8. When I had no money at all, I had free Uncle Ben's parboiled rice. I figured out how to cook it in the microwave. While it was in there, I chopped an onion and cooked it in butter until translucent going to turn brown. However you cook the rice, it needs half a cup of water left. Dump the rice and water into the hot skillet of onions. Stir to get the taste all over the rice...lol. The extra water disappears into steam. Then, I chopped the tops of green onions and only stirred the onion tops into the rice when I was ready to come out of the skillet. I put this in a Corelle dish with lid and rushed it off an hour away to a dinner, many dinners over the years. I was in school so everyone understood a rice dish all the time! People already there exclaimed about the aroma coming in the door. People who arrived after I did, marveled at the aroma. No one told me about this, I was just needing a cheap dish. I suppose any other sauteed vegetables would work. There was absolutely no other seasoning in this other than the onion. I loved this and so did Tommy even though he loves salt! I imagine cooking the rice in broth of any kind would work for extra flavor.

Lots of sleep when ill is a wonderful thing. Happy Mother's Day.
