Thursday, Bad case of the I don't want to's...

I have a very bad case of the I don't want to do anything.  There is just a never-ending supply of work and everything I tell myself just roles off my back.  I try my mantras as in "You are so blessed with work," and that is not working.

I sewed hard yesterday, and I was able to complete 5 hard items, but more things poured in. Wedding things are seasonal, but the piles are ever with me, and I have to stay on top of them. I was so pleased with myself working on Memorial Day and cleaning up those said piles and here we have new ones.  It is like I did nothing. Blah!

Okay deep breath, Kim. Now I am talking myself into getting busy.  Soon I will just set my timer for an hour and tell my inner brat they are not leaving the shop until the timer goes off.  Then when it does go off, I am usually in the middle of something and because I am a finisher, I keep going into the next hour. But I am telling you sometimes I just want to run away.

Anne remind me  please of my whining in January because I had nothing to do. Yes that did happen, once. long, long ago (5 months) I had nothing to do.

So today I swear I am going to get into the shop and get things done.

1. replace zipper in a golf coat

2, press three outfits and call owners as they are done and ready for pickup

3. hem and dress and fix straps

4. hem a dress

5. hem two pairs of jeans

6. put darts in two pairs of jeans

7. hem two pairs of police pants

8. take a jacket in

9. put together a bridal veil (bride getting married this weekend and her veil has not come in)

10. start another alteration on a dress.

11. hem two pair of groomsmen pants

12. mend missionary pants

I would really like to go through my rack and organize again according to dates and what kind of items need to be done.  This keeps me from missing anything.

Here it is Thursday again and time for me to list all the ways I have saved money this past week.

1. saved $50.46 in my penny can for the month

2.saved all my spare change

3. saved all my $5.00 bills now have $365.00 or $110.00 this week. I swear many people paid in 5's.  I think it is my best week ever.

4. saved a $1, $5, $10, $20 bill

5. ate all meals but one out of pantry and freezer

6. picked lettuce for salads and sandwiches from my plants

8.  Used coupons for Joanns

9. stocked up on soda that was 1/2 price and buy 2 get 3 free

10. bought 4 butters at $2.50 a pound, but best price in a long while

11. made cookies for snacks

12. used our abundance of eggs for egg salad and deviled eggs

13. researched the least expensive place to purchase white flour.  Turns out it is Albertson's so bought 80 lbs.  WW I can grind myself.

14. Stockpiled some mayo, cooking oil and crisco, as the prices have doubled and if you are going to cook from scratch to save money you need these things.

15. Bought another 25 lb bag of sugar to store.  Sugar prices have not risen that much which is amazing.

16. downloaded all rec'ts to fetch

17. wearing clothing that my Sissie sent me.  Free clothes Yeah!

18. picked up a package of porkchops with a 50% off sticker 5 chops for $2.30.  Always check the marked down meat section

19. picking wild alfalfa daily for the chickens, they love it and it helps reduce food costs

20. still using the large box full of dog treats that my Lil sis gave me when her dog passed. I still have a large box 1/2 full of different things for the dog.

21. researched the least expensive place to get gas.

All are small things, but they do add up.

I do fear we are going into a bad recession.  I don't think we have to panic, but I do think we have to prepare.  If you prepare you won't be hurt as badly by it.

Buy a few more cans of your favorite food.  Stock up on pantry essentials.  As prices continue to rise you will be prepared to endure the recession.

Have any of you stocked up on anything?  If you have what is it you have purchased?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. Stocked up on spaghetti sauce, olive oil, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce. Worcestershire sauce, and some honey. I keep about a two year supply of beans and about a three months supply of rice. Cindy in the South

    1. Olive oil that is a good one. But then we were both taught to store food, so we are ahead.

  2. I think we are already in recession IMO. You have done great this week, with everything. Human nature to complain - but we also to need to remember to be thankful for ALL things placed before us. You got this.

  3. You've got this, girl! We expanded our garden, and added a few more things that we enjoy (lettuce, primarily). We also have several citrus trees, and M rescued a few other trees from the clearance bin at the nursery. I think one is an olive tree, almond, & apple. Who knows how they will each do, but they were $5/each, so worth trying.

We haven't been doing much other stockpiling, although I always stock up on things like pasta, sauce, etc when it's on sale. In a pinch, we would be eating a lot of pasta & garden items. Our freezer is reasonably well stocked, although I'm attempting to work it down to a much smaller amount of food for now.

As for me, I'm continuing to upload my receipts to Fetch, use the occasional reward, and an opportunity to maximize what we have.

  4. I still mostly stock up whatever is on sale or bogo that week. I had an extra five pounds of sugar on hand and opened that, so need to get more. It seems feeding hummingbirds is using most of it.

It is to the point that I do not want to cook ever again!

  5. Life seems to be either feast or famine in terms of what needs to be done.
I have been stocking up whenever/wherever I find really good prices. My old price point for stocking up is totally worthless now though!

  6. Busy Busy means cash flow! When the work comes a knockin' you gotta get rockin'!!! From one small business owner to another - I understand. I haven't saved anything this month. In fact two big (30 people) parties in my backyard busted my grocery budget! I may have to get a job if I continue to feed people and now I have the 4th of July and family from 3 different states coming in for a week stay. My grocery costs have increased 30% across the board. I envy you getting grocery ads and finding good deals. 20 years ago, Walmart came in and ran off all their competitors so we have no ads, no competition, no choice. These gas prices have doubled our monthly fuel expense and badly hurt our mowing business. Our family has been chasing baby formula as we have two infants requiring a special kind and that has added more worry to all of us. I keep thinking that we will see some improvement somewhere but this baby formula hunt has opened our eyes. Hard times are here. ~jackie~

  7. That's a lot of work to get through. My piles are in the firm of emails and calendar appointments, and when I get caught up, I turn to see all five are loaded. Yep, so lucky to have my job, and so lucky I'm still working from home and saving on gas. I need a good stock up shop, but I'm trying to cook more seasonally, and with less expensive ingredients. Great find on pork chops.

    1. It was a good deal. You are so lucky to work from home, gas is a killer for people. I cooked all the pork chops and will slice up the other three for fried rice and eggrolls. Yum.

  8. I have extra of the majors; flour, sugar, oil, canned vegetables. I went through and wrote the BB date in black sharpie so i could see it from a distance instead of hunt and peck for it. Our freezer is full of meat even though i don’t eat meat. ( Hubby does) I expanded our garden possibilities, as well. I bought extra potatoes and canned them. I didn’t see any on the shelf. I feel we’re okay. Time will tell. I’m determined not to be ‘feared’ about the whole situation. We can only do what we can do. We also have a great community surrounding us!

  9. After many frugal bloggers I read have counseled to stock up, I have really applied myself to the task over the last three months and think I am in okay shape. I did an inventory this week, and know what I have. I agree, I think it will be a hurricane to quote some Wall Street guy. Love your blog, your word phrasing makes me laugh out loud ;). 1. I forgot one thing. Aldi’s appeared in Phoenix in the past 1-2 years, but long way cross town from where I live. I saw today they had boneless skinless chicken breasts on sale for $1.47/lb. Yikes, hadn’t seen that price in two years, so off I drove, and bought 9 pounds (the limit). Was a 25 mile round trip. First time ever to aldis, store seems okay but not worth the trip if they don’t have a killer sale to pay for the gas. Hilogene in Az.

    2. I would make the trip even with gas prices for that price. I love Aldi, but we don't have one here, but my sister has one within walking distance of her house. Not that she would ever walk there the privileged little poop.

  10. Small things add up to big things. I think you are doing well in the shop. Just keep plugging away and soon you will be able to take a well deserved breath.

    God bless.

  11. I stock up every week by way of loss leaders and sales. I know what I have paid for things in the past so I know a good deal when I see it. I don't assume anything is a great deal just because it is "on sale". Know your area, the cost of things that you normally use. Then you know it is a sale. This week got cereal for $1.27 a 21oz bag. Last time I stocked it was $.97 a bag, took into account inflation. I now have enough for the summer but will buy more depending on the price. Ground beef, 1.99# got 6 pounds and packaged in 1/2# bags for the freezer. Milk, $.97 per half gallon. Got 2 to put in the freezer. Grapes $.97#, 2 pounds, I will go back and get more next week before sale ends. The freezer is full with chicken, beef, sausage, bacon and shrimp at rock bottom prices. The pantry is full of flour, sugar, yeast, pasta, beans, rice and canned goods and mixes all at rock bottom prices. I will continue to rotate, purchase at the best price.

I am watching for the best price for pork chops and I will replenish those. I buy all meat in family packs, breakdown and freeze for 1 person. I can then take out only what I need for that meal or recipe.

Some people will laugh, some people will think I am strange but some people will be shocked at how much they have to spend to eat well because they don't plan well.

    1. It does take time and work and more effort, but we can all eat well for less, we just have to know what we are doing.

  12. Okay, I had a bowl of cereal and banana and milk. Chicken tenders is the next course. Two chicken legs in one bag and two tenders in another bag solved my problems. Tommy had the legs, last of sweet potato, and last corn on the cob. Special K, banana, milk, and chicken is my meal. I decided I can cook again...lol.

  13. Have you kept track of your I don't want to days? My Doctor had me keep track on mine on my calendar. Red X was I don't want to and DIDN'T, Yellow was I don't want to but did and green was get out of my way I am getting it done. Found a pattern and was able to change things around

  14. You know that is a great idea. But I think about how the last 4 days I pushed and produced, and I just get tired. Physically and mentally. Both you and I need to realize, and I know I don't that we have auto immune disorders, that exhaust out bodies, then we take a med that exhausts our bodies. We need to reflect and act one that.
