Tuesday, another chart! Kim said no again!

I am ahead on charts this year, mostly due to a busier bridal season and living in a house that is 1/2 the size, and the weather, that has been cooler, and my food storage feeding us.  Just all the little habits of saving that add up over time.  At the end of the month there is the extra. It is nice.

I had the food bank contact me two times today to come work tonight and I said no as my brother is here and I am behind on sewing.   Kim said NO!!!!!!  I did not try and work it into my schedule. This is also the day I take my elderly neighbor to her food bank, where we go at the end of the giveaway and get anything they are throwing out.  Tuesday must just be food day at the banks.

Went to Lil sis's last night for dinner. I took a green salad and the rest of the shortcake and strawberries we had not eaten.  I picked a good quart of fresh strawberries from her patch, and many had gone bad as she has not had time to pick them. I will keep an eye on this as we go over to swim and freeze for jam later.

It is my sister in laws birthday tonight so I don't know what the plans are, but there will be plans.

Finished a wedding dress yesterday and got a good start on another that I hope to finish today.  I really need to attack the piles as they are getting out of hand.  Plus, I need to concentrate on dresses again as they are stacking up like firewood.

Hubs ate the rest of the shrimp salad for lunch, and some of the brats that were left over.  There is still enough meat and salad that I won't have to cook tonight.  I love leftovers, makes my life so much easier and no waste.

It has finally turned hot here for at least a few days, and I am loving it.  The gardens need that heat to flower, and we are a little behind. But I must also remember to water everything as I have not had to hardly at all this last 4 weeks.

Hubs just left to go check out a volunteer project in some old person's house.  Again, I have to remind myself we are old people.

We have the kids tonight and tomorrow, but Lil sis has agreed to take them most of the day tomorrow, so they can play with cousins, and I can sew.  Hubs will go over with them to help. Lil sis will watch them when we go in for Hubs consult with the urologist.

It was fun to watch my nieces play in the pool.  They were having so much fun.  I was going to take them to buy some 4th of July clothes, but I talked to brother, and he said that they so loved getting boxes delivered on the porch, they would probably be more excited to have me mail them when they are home next week.  So, I will do that.  I know I will have to pay postage, but these two get so much joy out of it, it is worth it!

I actually got Hubs to get rid of 4 shirts.  It was a holy miracle.  Now Kim needs to downsize her ward robe.  But I need Sissie here to help.  She sends me so many lovely things, and I hate to get rid of things I might wear.  But my closet it at the point of the ridiculous. Right now, I have the ironing pile high, and I always wear the blouses I love first.  Maybe the ones that are left I could get rid of, but then I love them, or they were expensive (not that I paid for them).

Just how many blouses and pairs of shorts does one need? What is the magic number?  Having too much actually costs you money and time. I have neither.  Especially time. Nor do I have space.  Cramming the space full, just wrinkles the clothes I just ironed, plus leads to stress. This is something I really want to address.

Do any of you have too many clothes?  Does having too much stress you out?  What do you do about it?

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. I laughed at your comment that we are old people, yes we are too. I used to say, well a person was really old, like 80…but now I have two dear friends who are 80, so I get stuck halfway through the phrase when one of them gives me a look when I stutter and say 90 :). Love your blog, and especially happy you said no today to the food bank! Congrats on the chart success as well! Hilogene in Az

    1. We are old. I saw a woman walking today with grey hair, and I said to my husband I want to look like her when I am old. Then I realized I was older than her, I just keep my hair dyed.

  2. I must have to many clothes because even when zi weed down, it's still stuffed. Plus, I wear same things over and over. I keep saying I need things when I return to the office. That'll be September ish as our second in command says. Now the "ish" might be November considering the snails pace. Woo hoo in another chart.

    1. I know we wear 10% of what we have. Why is it so hard to pare down?

  3. Proud of you for saying NO. Proud of you for doing another chart.
I think clothes that hang for 6 mos. to a year and haven't been worn are good to go. I got a bunch I need to get rid of too.

    1. I know and it is so hard. We have two pretty distinct seasons here. Cold, and HOT,HOT HOT. So really two wardrobes.

  4. You are crushing those charts! Nice work.

My husband cleaned out his closet (he's lost a bunch of weight due to a food allergy) & almost nothing fits. I gave away bags on Buy Nothing, and have a bunch more to sell on eBay.

As for me, I have a real love of summery dresses, but don't wear shorts. I think I have one pair of shorts. Shorts aren't my thing.

    1. Well by shorts mine come to my knees. I am too old for short, shorts. I actually have a few nice summer dresses and several skirts that I like to wear.
      Much cooler.

  5. The ability to say NO is a life saver and luckily, it is a gift I was born with. As for clothes, although I got rid of so much last year, I still have a lot that I haven't worn in quiet a while. I am also very sloppy with food to the point that I probably need adult sized bibs. I will see if there are any stains that I can't get rid of and sort through my tops again.

    1. Once I get the ironing done I really need to purge. We are having a clothing swap at the church, but so few wear my size that it is not worth me taking them. I can relate to the bibs!

  6. Yay, on the no! I have to tell my daughter it’s okay to say no, too. It’s hard to be a people-pleaser.
We live in a 600 sq. ft. house. My clothes fit in one large dresser and part of our one, lonely closet. If i come home with something to wear, i have to donate something to make room for it. I’m not a big clothes shopper, either, so that helps.

    1. I love to shop for clothes, and I seldom get to because of where we live. Thank goodness for that!

  7. Great job on your charts!! I routinely go through my clothes but I know I still have way too many. I've actually been wearing items that I haven't worn for quite a while to decide at the end of the day do I really love them or not. More are staying than leaving but at least they're being worn right?

    1. That is really what I need to do. Also need to weed out the shoes. It is silly, and I do wear my shoes to death especially sandals. They get pretty mangy.

  8. I had an Amish "kid" since he is my kids age make a comment about old people... when I asked how old was old, his older brother said MY age... then they ratted him out to his parents as they are MY AGE. LOL

Turn hangers backwards in closet. If you don't wear it in a year get rid of it NO MATTER WHAT ... Sluggie get the sisters in on this LOL

  9. I cleared out a lot of my closet when I retired last December. But there wasn't a lot in there; I am known in some circles for NOT having an expansive wardrobe. Even pared down, it still seems too much to me.

And a huge WOO HOO for saying NO! It's a hard lesson to learn for those of us who are used to saying YES and jumping in to help.
