Wednesday, Using small moments

Happy birthday to daughter #3 she is 26 today.  I can't believe my baby is that old.  What happened to the time?

Things are heating up here and there is nothing I can do but plug along. I had a good time in Spokane with my crazy sister.  I think my shopping is done and now I have to get boxes out to Sissie and my brothers girls.  Also Hub's mom and dad and one to D#1.  But that is a goal for next month.

I just completed my add an extra  $1000.00 to the house by the skin of my teeth.   I have the work, I just have taken more time off to relax and veg.  Those days are over for at least the next few days.  The Military ball is this weekend in Spokane and here and Boise so I am inundated with uniforms.  Because why wouldn't you wait until two days before to get things done?  Blah!  There are piles in the shop again and things that have to be out by Friday.  As Friday is dress rehearsal I am burning the candle at both ends. So rather than letting myself get all stirred up I decided to not waste time.  I am great at staring off into space doing nothing for long periods of time.  Well not for the next few days.

The littles are here today and I have the baby down for a morning nap.  Hub's is at the High School over 60 hours this week so I am alone with the kids. Instead of sitting in front of the TV watching Baby Bum I decided I could get things done.  After all I raised the last two kids with a shop.  Not that they didn't create really horrible messes. But I can use small moments of peace to get things done.  These moments can be snatched when the babies are underfoot or within sight.

I was able to turn over two loads of laundry with them in the hall playing.  Then I was able to hang up several of Hub's shirts and my things and put laundry away in our room, while they played with the dog kennel.  They are fascinated by this large kennel.  I was able to get my hair done and put on some makeup.  I gave them a tin of spools to play with and they were content for about 15 minutes, just long enough for me to take in three shirts for the fish and game. With the baby down I completed the shirts for the Fish and game (6 of them).  I also started on three pairs of pants.  I have one done and two cut and ready.

But the baby is up and I have chased him around and fed him cereal.  Quickly serge around the sleeves of the last costume (baby doll dress) and re thread the machine.  Laundry is dry so run and fold while babies follow me.  The older one will go down for a nap about 1:30 and then I can let the baby play on the floor of the shop with some toys while I sew.  It is just bits and pieces of time here.  Just finished the two pairs of pants and prepped two more for hand hem.  Also sewed a little on the doll costume.

So using small moments of time I can hopefully get this costume close to finished and the pants done and the three military uniforms done that I have ripped.  I must go to Joanns tonight as I avoided it on the Black Friday days. Also Hub's will get a dinner break and we are going to get a salad or a taco because I am not cooking.  Sorry.  That will be my limit.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

    1. It was pretty low keyed compared to many of my old days.

  3. Your post made me think of a very funny moment from the past. My life has always been a "do a little here" and "do a little more there" like yours is. When one of the kids was little, I was trying to squeeze in some sewing. She was crawling around on the floor, sorting patterns into shoeboxes according to her whims (she was around 2, so no logic, just shuffling them here and there and spreading them all over), and generally playing while I sewed like a maniac. I always figured the kids needed clothes then, not when I was a grandma and had time to make them:). Well, she crawled in and out between my legs, and all around the floor, playing, and I ignored her until I was very startled to have the machine keep sewing all by itself. It scared the tar out of me as the machine clattered noisily on, sewing nothing, me touching nothing, the needle madly going up and down, and then I realized she was sitting on the floor pedal! From that moment on, and to this day, I automatically turn off the machine each and every time I stop sewing for any reason. Not necessary any more, but still a habit!

  4. I have had that happen and usually it is a dog or a cat. But funny that you tell me this. I noticed I turned off all the sergers when I used them yesterday.

    1. It was tricky but no more tricky than when mine were younger. Yes this is the 3rd month I have been able to do this and I plan to do this until the house is paid off.

  7. You are absolutely amazing! I wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything if I was watching kids! Well done on getting the $1000 extra on the house, as well!
