Monday, Badly bruised arm addition

Taking care of the elderly dementia couple on Friday night was very easy.  I did have very interrupted sleep due to the dog but the couple was great.  I was able to take some quilting things with me and work on them. It was relaxing to have no phone calls and just be able to veg.  The dog liked to bark at every little sound and kept waking me up in the night, the rascal.

I was home by 11:00 and I picked up the last of the groomsmen clothes and also picked up the chargers for the wedding.  I then went and had a badly needed pedicure and it was lovely. Upon coming home I knew that the blueberries and the beans needed to be picked. So I went out to the garden to get this done.  The garden is very over grown or I should say very big and tall plants obscure your footing.  I managed to trip over a small metal fence we put up to keep the kids and the dog out of the garden.  Down I went into the pond rock.  I landed with my wrist between two large stones and torqued it as I landed full force on my elbow and then my knee.  Of course all the right side of my body and I am right handed.  I spilled all the blueberries which really ticked me off.

I was able to pick up berries, but my hand was going numb and I hurt like the dickens.  It was different than a crazy bone hit and I was having a hard time moving my elbow.  So off to the doctor we go and after ex rays, the attending physician could not read them well because of the arthritis.  So I ended up in a 1/2 cast for next 48 hours until a radiologist could release me.  The attending doc thought it was cracked.

Let me tell you, panic was setting in at a fast rate.  I have so much in the shop the house and garden the wedding, not a time for a broken bone.

I did nothing the rest of the weekend but sleep and pray and get waited on by my husband and my Lil sis. Had hub's make me blueberry pancakes and felt generally sorry for myself.

My elbow and lower right back are very sore.

This morning the radiologist was contacted (I had several of his kids in dance)and he said it was not broken but badly bruised.   Yeah!  That cast was ripped off in record time and I am just moving slower than usual.  Actually my lower back is giving me more fits than my arm. Radiologist told me this kind of injury can be more painful than a break. Iit only really hurts bad if I put pressure on the elbow.  So I am very grateful right now as well as black and blue, and going green and yellow.

Hub's picked the beans in the garden for me and my daughters are all calling and offering to come down.  B is here deep cleaning the front room and she has been vacuuming for over an hour.  I need to get injured more often. :)  Not really.

Anyway it was a humdinger of a weekend and I don't want it repeated.

I need to pay bills, and get quite a it of sewing done today.  Still have brides coming in right and left.

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

  1. Oh Kim, I am so sorry, but glad it is only a really bad and painful bruise, maybe? I hope you will take a little more time to heal, but I know you have so much going on that time is your enemy.
Seriously do take care of you!

    1. Well I am a little flummoxed right now. Not in any real pain, but just waiting and doing what I can. Drats!

  2. OY! Nothing like a bruised elbow to put a crimp in your plans. If your back continues to ache you might want to look into a chiropractic adjustment if covered by your insurance. Untreated, it can lead to even more pain issues.

    1. You know my back is the worst part and you are right. I see a specialist tomorrow and then to the choir I go.

  3. So sorry to hear about your fall. The good news is, the elbow isn't broken, but he bad news is, it's more painful than a break! My youngest son has broken both elbows (a few years apart), and had surgery for one. It still doesn't extend completely.

  7. I have fallen and complained for months. Often the doctorwill say that if it had been a break, I would be better by now. I thought I had a serious mysterious bruise on my arm tonight, but it was a huge chocolate ice cream smear.
