Monday, Money saving madness

We have had no cell service since Friday about 11 a.m. due to a forest fire.  You cannot call out and people can't call in.  This is not helping my business at all and I am anxious to get it up and running.

Some how I inflamed my left hip and it is BAD.  I took along walk yesterday,  nothing out of the ordinary and I did not sleep a wink last night.  No matter what position I tried it throbbed painfully.  It is hard to walk.  I am hoping that it will abate as the day goes along.

It will be a limping and hopping day.  I just took 2 ALEVE so I am hoping after this post for a miracle.

Money Saving Madness   August 5th-11th 2018

1. Picked and ate squash, tomatoes, peppers, corn, herbs, lettuce from garden.
2. canned 7 quarts of tomatoes
3. canned 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce
4. Ate out out freezer for meat and main courses
5. Fed all food scraps to chickens
6.  Made pies that would use up pullet eggs
7. continued to work on my bread bag rug
8. Bought limit on shrimp for a killer price
9. Stayed out of stores and went to two second hand stores bought nothing.
10. found a quarter! add to pig bank

I am telling you there is nothing more satisfying, than going to ones freezer and pulling out meat that you purchased for a rock bottom price, adding side dishes from your garden, potatoes (that are free or pennies on the dollar).  Making a great meal and not having to spend, because it is there.

I love going to my storage and pulling out what ever pasta I bought for .69 a pound.  Making a great pasta salad for pennies. I love refilling my large flour and sugar containers with staples purchased at the lowest prices of the season.  Running down stairs  for a box of cornstarch and seeing that there are 2 more boxes, along with other baking supplies.

Okay here is to getting up and getting something done with as little pain as possible.  Yikes!

Have a great and productive day staying positive while you are in the negative.

Kim

  1. Do you ever avoid foods that cause inflammation? I heard tomatoes were on that list, so I will just have inflammation.

    1. Yes I went on a diet that eliminated several foods for this and non of them caused inflammation to me.

  2. I have found that by cutting out wheat and sugar in all its forms has had a remarkable effect on my arthritis. All my pain has stopped! There is a lot of research now to support this. Hope this could help you.

    1. I know how many times can you change position or get up and try sleeping in a chair before you just give up and stay awake?

  4. Hi Kim,
I’m so sorry about your hip pain.
My husband takes prescription strength Aleve and his last doctor stressed that it works best when taken twice a regularly. So I make sure he gets one morning and evening everyday. It doesn’t stop all his pains but it does help.

Your list of things you’ve done is just amazing.

  6. Arthritis is the WORST - I have to have a knee replacement - do you have joint replacement in your future? I know we aren't in the same area but I can NEVER find pasta for less than 99 cents - wish I could find 69 cents!!!

    1. It is and I sure hope not. Although I have had a big toe joint rebuilt so I could dance. I have to say it never was the same. Yes groceries can be cheaper here for some things.

  7. Oh poor Kim. Pain is bad enough by itself, but not sleeping because of it just magnifies every bad thing - or at least it does for me. I hope you feel better soon, get some rest, and get your cell service back.

Also, you should feel proud of your thrifty/frugal meal prep: you work so hard to make it happen.

  8. I hope your hip gets better very soon. My husband suffers terribly from a bad hip, and I know how painful it can be.
