Thursday, Kim's life is a cluster, and Thrifty Thursday

WHY?  WHY?  WHY? do I try and plan? I had such high hopes for yesterday.  I had my list.  I had it under control. Meat was thawed, things were set out.  My sewing was lined up.  It was going to be a good day.

The first dress I cut, I did not have thread to match, that is okay put it to the side.  Next dress, I got that cut, and serged and hemmed and ready to press and Hubs notifies me via txt that the Orofino missionaries  are back home so they are not able to come to dinner and that is okay the other 4 will show.

You never have to worry about those boys turning down food.  So the other 4 elders contact me and they have replaced the Orofino group with another set of missionaries that were local.  Again who is going to turn down a free dinner cooked by someone else?  Not this group, they are very resourceful, they watch out for each others stomach's.  Only problem we have to feed 8 instead of 7 again Kim can roll with that.

But the caveat is they all have to attend a meeting that starts at 5. SO they can eat at 4?  It is now 2 and I have a couple more hours of sewing ahead of me and Hubs is up on the hill with the grandkids so I don't have an assistant. But that is okay he can probably hit the house by 4 and he can start the grill and the outside cooker.  Well at 3 no hubs and I am sweating and panicking, as the hoard will descend within the hour.  I had 10 lbs of potatoes to peel, 10 ears of corn to shuck, and both had to be cooked.  Then I had cantaloupe to cut. I had squash to slice and put in the oven. I realized that I had flunked basic home ec as I noticed that my vegetables and fruit were all in the same orange/yellow color palette.  Major fail. Hubs is running late......

I got the table set for 10, got the taties and corn onto boil, cut the cantaloupe, started the gravy, butter and milk in the microwave for the mashed taties,4 and still no hubs but the first set of missionaries arrive and they start the grill, then the next set arrive, and they are like locusts.  I had a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and one dug into that immediately, he had no shame.   Finally hubs arrives at about 4:10, I am getting ice water into glasses and all 9 of them troop in with the meat and they just start serving themselves from the kitchen.  I mean right out of the pots!  I did not put anything on the table except condiments.

Everyone just grabbed a plate off the table and served themselves out of the kitchen.  It worked, but I was a wreck.  They eat, they squabble, they eat some more, they all rise at the same time, they fly out the door and hubs and I are just sitting across from each other surrounds by dishes and laughing.  We left the mess and went out and got a cold soda.  That is how we deal with stress.

While I ran to Joanns to get thread and then to Lil sis's for a minute, Hubs started to clean the kitchen and had a good start on it when I got home.   I was just too wiped out to get anymore sewing done in the evening, so yesterday's list is now today's list.

Hubs just came home and said the Car needs new tires.  I love my life.  I really do, but sometimes I just, just.....

Thrifty Thursday:

10. picked squash, onions, peppers and cucumbers from the garden.

  1. I GOT CURED OF HERPES WITH THE HELP OF DR Patrick OGU , I Am from North Carolina, USA . I caught genital herpes from my ex boyfriend who never had any symptoms of herpes . I had it for 4 years ,and it has literally affected my life before I got cured. People think herpes is really a minor skin irritation, herpes has long term effects on health. The stigma attached to this virus by ignorant people is ridiculous. Most people have herpes in one form or another but they might not be aware of it. I would like to advise people on how I got rid of my herpes by using Dr OGU herbal medicine. I saw a comment posted by a woman from Colorado, on the internet that she got rid of her herpes with the help of doctor OGU. I was so happy when I saw that post. i quickly collected the doctor OGU contact email and I emailed him. Within 1 hr he responded to my email. i explained things to him and he told me not to worry that he will help me. i ordered for his medicine product which was sent to me via DHL. that was how i got the herbal medicine and i used it as i was told for the period of 6 days which is twice a day ( morning and at night before going to bed) .after 8 days, i found out that the herpes was no more and this was also confirmed by my doctor. if you have herpes or other similar disease and you want it cure, kindly contact doctor OGU Patrick via this email ; drogugusolutionhome@gmail.com or text him via: +1 719 629 0982 .

  2. While I'll never understand your missionary culture and the "drop everything" for their needs at the expense of your own, I repsect that you always get it done. I'm glad you could both laugh and bless hubs for starting on the clean-up without your direction. No one here seems to be able to do a load of laundry, unlaod and reload the dishwasher, or weed outside (though hubs mows the grass). I think the conventional wisdom is I am home all day and have all the time in between my meetings to get hosue stuff done. No-we just live in chaos.

    1. I think that is true of almost every home my dear. As you work from home you really are not working are you.....? So aggravating. One thing about having hubs home all day is that he does realize how hard i work and how much I sacrifice. I truly believe we are blessed for all we do for the missionaries in our area, they keep us young and area joy to be around, no matter how much work they create.

  3. Yowza Kim! You did a bang up job serving the missionaries! If no one else has said it, I’m so proud of you. You are truly serving the Lord. I would have been laughing at the end too after the way they ate.

I hope you can get all your work done.

    1. I swear it is like a swarm of locusts, they fly in, descend, eat everything in site, rise in mass and fly out together. Like a blur of black and white!

  4. oh, how I have laughed at this, reread and laughed more and read it to Tommy and laughed. Do you think those feral boys, feral in a nice way, care of they get their food out of pots in the kitchen? Now, you don't have to wash serving bowls. And, do you think they actually notice the color of a meal like we do? i suppose the kid who dug into the chocolate cake was hungry and thought "Life is short; eat dessert first. He might have thought the end was near because his stomach was empty. Their mothers would be mortified! I suppose it is a good trade off since I think they have helped you with hard stuff. I was getting antsy, myself. What was husband doing when he did not get home--question Tommy asked me.

    1. He was on the hill babysitting the grand-kids while daughter was taking Oliver to his mom. You are right their mother's would be horrified, but they bring a joy and youthfulness with them that is contagious. You are right I said to myself while they were slinging food out of pots, at least I don't have to wash serving bowls.

  5. I do think the "hit and run" dinner for 8 is a little intrusive. I would be more than a little undone and cooking for crowds does not bother me at all. It would just be the stipulations put on the meal that would bother me.
Have a Diet Coke with a doughnut my friend!

    1. I was undone, but then I look out at the 100 foot long wall made of three tiers, deep of 67 lb blocks that they helped hubs build and I am ready to sacrifice. This would have cost us well over $2000 and they are free labor when we need them, that is priceless. Plus they are good natured, and bring a very lovely spirit with them.

  6. I'm not great with that kind of schedule change, and my meal would instead be some sort giant trays of breaded chicken from the freezer (purchased for my picky youngest eater), a salad & any and all other frozen appetizers I could dig up. Perhaps a box of pasta. With time, that's certainly not what I would make, but I would in that crazy situation.

Also, do they not help clean up? I would definitely want them to, after they tore through the kitchen

  7. Wow, you are amazing!
I wouldn't have been able to get a meal like that together in time. I might have thrown together some spaghetti and salad and preacher cake and called it good enough.

    1. Never heard of preacher cake enlighten me.

    2. I think preacher cake must be a southern thang, named because if the preacher called and invited himself for supper, you usually had all the ingredients to make the cake. It is good for potluck suppers too.
I use this recipe, and cut back the sugar to 1 cup.

  8. I second that - you are amazing! I would not have been able to do that so quickly.
    Did they say thank you?

    1. More than thank you, they ate everything in sight. And they have blessed us in so many ways.

  9. Sometimes Kim - I just feel exhausted reading all that you achieve in a day. I'm glad they served themselves & I'm glad you were able to laugh about it all at the end. That's the only way to go.

  10. actually we eat dessert first (https://redtri.com/how-dessert-can-be-good-for-you-when-you-eat-it-before-your-meal/ ) always have. If we don't then it's a snack for later. I was raised with food coming out of the pots. Hubby was raised with serving dishes and thought it was a waste of time and water. If I am using serving dishes it's because I know there will be leftovers and I am just covering the dish to put in the frig. Common to not have the meal ready when the gang shows up...that why I always have a pile of fresh veggies with dip siting on the table.

    1. Well last nights dinner was like that, but I have decided when the hoard descends again it will be out of the pots.

  11. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
