Sunday, I hope I can get a nap in.

Yesterday it was the remainder of the top kitchen drawers that got a good clean out.  I go rid of 24 items, plus week took a box of light bulbs that know longer fit in this house to habitat for humanity.  They might be able to use them in the houses they build.  We just have different light fixtures here.

The river was beautiful yesterday and we enjoyed paddling up and down stream for a couple of hours.  Then we came home and cooked chicken breasts and salad. It was just a nice Saturday doing things we wanted.

Today we had church, and we have the missionaries here for dinner.  After this post I am going to sear a roast and get it in the oven.  Kids are due here with babies and they are taking the boat out.  We will both nap with a baby.  I have to peel carrots and onions, and I will make garlic mashed red spuds.  Don't know what kind of bread I am serving, will probably make biscuts.  William loves biscuts.  Also will toss a salad. Dinner done.

Cleaned and organized.  I do not have very big drawers in this kitchen, nor do I have very many of them, so I have a hard time finding places for everything.  But it is getting better.

Many things in this drawer went by by. I had several coaster type cloths that I decorated my old kitchen with and as I had never used them, they went away.

These drawers are so narrow, it is aggravating. But I cook from scratch all the time and I need my tools.  Everyday napkins were folded different to utilize the space better.

I did not get a picture of this baking drawer before, but I think this was the drawer where I did the most decluttering.  As in do I really use this?  Mom did all her cookies with melon ballers and I do not so those went.  I don't have the room and I don't need them taking up space.

This was probably the most frustrating drawer, but I really felt I needed all of this.  I bake so much and one scrapper is not enough.

So I felt like I am on track for my clean and purge challenge.  In fact I am ahead on getting rid of things, but that will get harder the further we go in the month.

Well I am off to start cooking dinner, and then i am going to nap!  Yeah

Have a peaceful, and restful Sabbath.

  1. Just get the nap! I am so short on things in the kitchen! One spatula/scraper won't work. I had a pretty crock type thing for long cooking things and another for short cooking things that freed up drawer space. Now, I don't even have one drawer to use. Well, he has mellowed so that now once the place is roach free, the drawers will be emptied and I can use them.

  4. Doesn't it feel so good to discard and tidy up? It brings me calmness. Your dinner sounds so good. It's a nice feeling knowing I don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow. Enjoy your labor day weekend.

  6. Your drawers look great Kim. I have very little drawer space in my kitchen so I have a couple of big old stoneware crocks on my bench & all my frequently used cooking utensils & wooden spoons go in these - its so easy to just grab them from there.

    1. I would do that, but I have a thing about stuff on my counters, I think it was from my mother who had so much stuff it drove me nuts. Now I have just a few things and am trying to figure out how to get rid of those things. I am weird.

  7. Your kitchen drawers look so good, Kim. I enjoyed seeing all of your cooking utensils. I hope you were able to get your nap in before the missionaries came for dinner.

  8. Nice job purging. I see you have one of those fancy meat masher/breakers. That might be the one gadget I might get myself soon, but then, I've survived 55+ years without one too. I agree-rubber scrapers are always a good need.

    1. I think my first reply may have flown off into space. Just add a tablespoon or two of water to ground meat and no need to break it up. That's a tip I read on someone's blog. It works for me.

    2. Those mashers are something I just discovered and they are so worth it. But the tip above about the water is something I will try for sure.

  9. Dad always put his cloth napkins in a serving bowl on the table. We have a china hutch next to the table so I put the napkins there. Mother put her napkins in a hanging basket like what is used for onions and such.
